Before embarking on your adventures with The Thieves’ Guild and Dark Brotherhood in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, it’s essential to complete the Nocturnal side quest first. This is because it grants you one of the top Daedric Artifacts in the game – the Skeleton Key. Unlike in Skyrim, you won’t have to return this key.

Prior to embarking on the quest, you must first advance to level ten. If you haven’t reached this level, you’ll encounter a message saying “Nocturnal requires a stronger hero.” Once you’re prepared, however, the quest for such a powerful artifact should prove relatively straightforward.

Where To Find Nocturnal’s Shrine

To reach Nocturnal’s shrine, fast travel to Leyawiin and follow the eastern road out of town.

Eventually, you’ll come across a branching dirt path that leads straight to the statue.

If you inquire from Alves Uvenim at the Mages Guild in Leyawiin regarding “Daedra shrines,” provided that you’ve studied ‘Modern Heretics,’ you’ll be given a marker on your map.

How To Find The Eye Of Nocturnal

Upon reaching the shrine, approach the statue and engage with it to converse with the Night Mistress. She will then assign you a fresh task: the search for the Eye of Nocturnal.

Return to Leyawiin to begin your search for the thieves who stole the Eye of Nocturnal.

To determine who might have taken the artifact, it would be beneficial to chat with a guard in Leyawiin city. Upon doing so, you may encounter a new option called ‘Eye of Nocturnal’, but for now, disregard it since they won’t understand its relevance.

Rather than selecting another option, opt for the ‘Leyawiin’ choice instead. This will lead to a discussion about Weebam-Na and Bejeen, who have been boasting about a substantial gain they’ve made lately. Visit these individuals at their residence, inquire about the artifact to advance the quest. They won’t share any information initially, but if you depart and return, you can overhear their conversation.

If you prefer to wrap up the quest as quickly as possible, feel free to move on directly to the cave, bypassing the listening-in stage.

As far as you remain undetected, they will divulge the secret that the Eye of Nocturnal is hidden within Tidewater Cave, thereby updating your map with a fresh quest target for you to discover.

Where To Find Tidewater Cave

The Tidewater Cave lies to the south of Leyawiin, nestled on the shores of Topal Bay. This modest subterranean hideout is inhabited by trolls, bears, wolves, and silverfish. The primary treasure here is the Eye of Nocturnal, but if you’re inclined to delve deeper, there are a few chests scattered throughout for your finding pleasure.

Upon entering, make your first turn to the left, then traverse the tunnel till its end. After that, take another left to encounter a sizable body of water. Leap in and swim through an underwater entrance to discover the Eye of Nocturnal.

Grab it and then leave the cave so that you can fast travel back to Nocturnal’s shrine.

Speak To Nocturnal To Unlock The Skeleton Key

Returning to the shrine, engage the statue once more to converse with Nocturnal. She will bestow upon you the Skeleton Key as a token of gratitude for your retrieval of her eye – a lockpick that cannot be broken.

You can also use this artifact in Blood of the Daedra, but it’s a bit of a waste.

The Skeleton Key stands out for enhancing your Security level by a significant 40 points when carried, which is especially advantageous for stealth-focused characters. Additionally, being indestructible, it allows you to bypass the lockpicking minigame entirely by repeatedly pressing the ‘Auto Attempt’ button, turning challenging locks into a breeze.
