The latest update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduces several new features, but a major highlight is Kappn’s family-run hotel. Players get to design and decorate guest rooms to match each visitor’s tastes, choose outfits for them, and generally make the resort a welcoming place. If you’re excited about this new addition, you’re probably wondering how to unlock it. Here’s a guide on how to access Kappn’s hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to Unlock the Kappn’s Resort Hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Okay, so if you want to get Kappn to open up his hotel, there are a few things you need to do first! You actually have to meet him at least once, and that doesn’t happen right away. You need to get your island to a three-star rating – that means K.K. Slider will come perform a concert for you. You also need to have upgraded to Resident Services, and K.K. Slider needs to have actually played that concert on your island before Kappn will even think about offering his services!

Once you’ve completed the necessary steps, Isabelle will tell you that boat tours are available. Then, you can go to the pier, find Kapp’n, and take a boat ride with him to explore the ocean.

Okay, so first things first, make sure you’ve downloaded the 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Once that’s done and you start the game, Isabelle will tell you about a new hotel that’s opened up on the pier. After that, just head down to the pier on your island and go inside – that’s it!

Helping Set Up the Resort Hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

As soon as you go inside, Tom Nook will greet you and introduce you to Kappn’s family. Before you can fully decorate your home however, you’ll need to help Leilani decorate a single room first – think of it as a quick lesson!

When decorating the hotel rooms, be sure to follow Leilani’s design themes. She initially asked for a ‘seaside room’ feel, which is fairly simple and should only take 5–10 minutes. If you need help choosing furniture that matches the theme, use the ‘Recommended Tab’ – you can access it by pressing the right direction on the d-pad.

Once you’ve finished everything, take a picture of the room with your Nook Phone, then talk to Leilani and tell her you’re finished.

You’ll earn 200 Tickets for showcasing your interior design talents! You can use these Tickets at Gram’s shop, located to the right as soon as you enter the hotel.
