In Mewgenics, you can collect various items and furniture to enhance your gameplay. Even when you’re not actively on an expedition with your cats, these items can boost your breeding program at home. Adding furniture improves your home’s stats, which leads to better quality kittens and happier cats overall. The furniture box in Mewgenics is a convenient way to obtain these furnishings, but its mechanics can be confusing, so here’s a simple explanation.
How to Get Furniture Box in Mewgenics
You can find furniture boxes during a run by moving onto special ‘box tiles’. These tiles appear instead of the usual skulls, chests, and other icons that signal events or battles.
Okay, so from playing a lot, I’ve learned furniture boxes are actually pretty uncommon. You won’t just stumble across them playing through the main areas in Act 1. You really need to start taking the ‘Hard’ paths after you get past The Alley to find them. I first found one in The Junkyard – I’ve included a screenshot to show you where – but they can pop up in other spots too, it’s just less likely.
How to Use Furniture Boxes in Mewgenics
If you find a furniture box while exploring, it’ll automatically go into your Backpack. Here’s how it works: the box gives you +8 Shield but slows you down with -5 Movement. It will break once your shield is gone. When you get back home, it transforms into a random piece of furniture.
Just because a cat is equipped with a furniture box doesn’t mean you’ll automatically receive the furniture inside, even if the box is damaged. If the box’s shield is broken during a run, it vanishes and you get nothing. The key is to keep the box safe and ensure it completes the run intact.
The easiest way to get this item is to simply don’t put it on any of your cats. Keep it safe in your backpack until you finish a run. Once you return home, the box it was in will magically transform into a brand new piece of furniture you can use to decorate and get benefits from!
If you die while carrying the furniture box, the mysterious figure will let you keep it. It will still transform into a piece of furniture, just as it would if you finished the level.
