Pokémon Legends: Z-A features Zygarde as a central character in the story, and you’ll need to complete a few specific tasks before you can add it to your team.
Okay, so Zygarde is a big deal in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. It’s not just some random Pokémon; it’s actually connected to everything happening in Lumiose City, kind of pulling the strings behind the scenes. And if you’re like me and a completionist, getting Zygarde is essential – it’s the same situation as catching Arceus in Legends: Arceus; you need it if you want to say you’ve truly finished the game!
Want to catch Zygarde in Pokémon Legends: Z-A? Here’s a guide to help you do it.
How to Catch Zygarde in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Okay, so Zygarde is a real pain to get in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. You can’t just stumble across it early on. Seriously, you have to be way into the post-game, finish the whole main story, and even then, there are a few extra things you need to do before it’ll finally show up. It’s a bit of a journey, honestly!
Before you can encounter Zygarde, you first need to participate in the Infinite Z-A Royale and catch both Xerneas and Yveltal. After completing those tasks, go back to Hotel Z. L will be there, and you’ll have to battle and defeat him.
A breakdown of his team is shown in the table below.
Pokémon | Type | Level |
---|---|---|
Pyroar | Normal/Fire | 78 |
Florges | Fairy | 78 |
Sableye | Dark/Ghost | 78 |
Garbodor | Poison | 78 |
Noivern | Flying/Dragon | 78 |
Mega Gyarados | Water/Dark | 80 |
Zygarde Location in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
After you defeat L, Zygarde will appear in the center of Wild Area 20. However, be aware that while Zygarde is there, Alpha Pokémon won’t spawn in that location, potentially preventing you from catching them until you’ve defeated Zygarde.
This battle requires careful preparation because it’s all one continuous attempt – you can’t save and continue later. You’ll face different forms of Zygarde in each stage, and they all have strong attacks that can easily set you back if you’re not prepared.
During the second part of the battle, when Zygarde reaches half power, focus on dodging its attacks while it’s preparing, and bring your Pokémon back to safety to prevent them from getting hurt. The last stage is the most challenging – at full power, Zygarde will start targeting you directly instead of your Pokémon, so be prepared!
The biggest dangers in this fight come from powerful, unavoidable attacks. For Core Enforcer, Zygarde leaves the battle area and creates a huge ‘Z’ shape on the ground with lasers, which then explodes. To survive, quickly run to either the left or right side of the arena and find a spot that isn’t lit up in green.
Land Wrath is the most dangerous attack because it strikes repeatedly. When Zygarde starts powering up this attack, quickly move your Pokémon to the edge of the battle arena to minimize damage. Although you might get hit at the edge, there’s usually enough time between each hit to prevent your Pokémon from fainting.
Best Pokémon to Beat Zygarde in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
If you’re trying to defeat Zygarde, Fairy-type Pokémon are the most effective. Gardevoir is a great choice, as it can inflict damage with Moonblast, recover health with Draining Kiss, and increase its stats with Calm Mind. Experiment with different move combinations to find what works best for you and establish a consistent strategy to win.
While many Pokémon can be helpful, the most important strategy is to boost your own Pokémon’s stats, weaken Zygarde, and use moves that heal your team, keeping them fighting longer.
We’ve outlined some other fine choices to take down Zygarde in the table below.
Pokémon | Type | Crucial Moves |
---|---|---|
Gardevoir | Psychic/Fairy | – Calm Mind – Moonblast – Draining Kiss |
Mega Meganium | Grass/Fairy | – Dazzling Gleam – Giga Drain |
Abomasnow | Grass/Ice | – Swords Dance – Ice Punch – Ice Beam |
Froslass | Ice/Ghost | – Draining Kiss – Ice Beam – Shadow Ball |
After you defeat all forms of Zygarde, you can catch it without fail. You’ll also get the Zygarde Core, which lets you switch between its different forms. Once it’s in its complete form and its health drops below half, Zygarde can Mega Evolve during battle.
