In Code Vein 2, building relationships with characters is key. The game features an affinity system where strengthening your bond with a character unlocks new weapons. Reaching maximum affinity with a partner even earns you the ‘Irreplaceable’ achievement. However, the system can be a little confusing, so this guide will explain how it all works.
Jadwiga and Lavinia don’t offer any weapon-related benefits, even with a strong relationship. This means players don’t need to focus heavily on building a close bond with them.
How to Increase Affinity With a Partner in Code Vein 2
As a big fan of Code Vein 2, I’ve been trying to figure out how the partner affinity system works, but it’s tricky because the game doesn’t actually show you how much affinity you have with each character. However, after a lot of playing and chatting with other fans, we’ve pretty much figured out there are three main ways to get your partner to like you more:
Giving Gifts
Giving gifts to your partners earns you Trading Points and strengthens your relationship with them. Once you’ve recruited characters in MagMell, you can start giving them gifts, and this guide will help you understand how the gift system works in Code Vein 2.
It seems there’s a limit to how much affinity you can gain by giving gifts. While we don’t know the exact number, players have reported reaching the cap around 200 Trading Points. You might want to go slightly over that amount to be sure you’ve hit the limit, but you definitely don’t need to earn as much as 1,000+ Trading Points.
Boiled Eggs are a cost-effective way to quickly earn Trading Points. As explained in the gift guide, you’ll need to create a large quantity of them, so be prepared to make many!
Completing Requests
Doing the optional quests offered by your companions is a great way to build your relationship with them, which makes sense! These quests usually become available after you’ve made key story decisions and entered the Free Exploration phase. If you want to improve your bond with your companions, be sure to complete all of their side content when it appears.
Exploration & Combat
It looks like doing activities with your companion is key to strengthening your bond with them. Specifically, exploring the world – opening chests, collecting items, and defeating enemies – all help improve your relationship. So, if you’ve given your companion lots of gifts but haven’t unlocked their special weapon yet, try setting them as your active partner and spending time exploring and fighting alongside them.
Just a heads-up, don’t bother trying to unlock special weapons for Jadwiga and Lavinia. They don’t actually have any high-affinity weapons to offer in their shops, so it’s a waste of time and resources. I learned that the hard way!
Achieving Maximum Affinity with a Partner in Code Vein 2 (Irreplaceable)
Okay, so there’s a trophy for maxing out your relationship with a partner, and honestly, it’s way easier if you pick someone early on – like Lou or Lyle – and just stick with them. Seriously, make them your partner whenever you can! That way, they get the most points from exploring and fighting. If you’re a completionist and check out everything on the map, you should be able to unlock the ‘Irreplaceable’ trophy by giving your chosen partner a ton of Boiled Eggs towards the end of the game. It really works!
If you haven’t received the trophy, you probably need to spend more time playing with that character as your partner, exploring areas and defeating enemies. Just because a special weapon appears in their shop doesn’t guarantee you’re about to unlock the achievement – affinity is increasing, but it’s not an instant trigger.
Okay, so here’s a tip I learned the hard way. It looks like how much you like a character – your affinity – actually carries over when you start New Game Plus! I was going for the ‘Irreplaceable’ achievement, and I’d given a ton of Boiled Eggs to someone, finished all their quests, and spent ages with them, but it still wasn’t popping. If you’re in the same boat, don’t give up! Jump into NG+ and keep doing what you were doing to build that relationship. It feels way better than running around a map you’ve already explored a million times, wondering if you’ll ever max out their affinity. Seriously, try NG+ – it worked for me!
