How To Invite Friends In Deadlock

As a seasoned gamer with over 20 years of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that Deadlock has quickly become one of my favorite games in development right now! The playtest might be exclusive, but thanks to Valve’s generosity and Gabe Newell’s legendary hospitality, getting friends involved is as easy as pie.

Although Deadlock’s playtest might be restricted to the public at large, gaining access can still be straightforward if you or someone you know has been granted permission to play. The game is already an enjoyable experience in its preliminary build, and it becomes even more engaging when played with a group of friends filling up the lobby.

For those familiar, the exclusive playtest of Deadlock is by invitation only. Yet, Valve has been generous in extending these invites, including the CEO Gabe Newell who was more than willing to share one. If you wish to grant your friends access to the game or collaborate with other players, here’s a guide that will walk you through the process.

Suppose you’ve been invited to a game called Deadlock, you can ask your buddies to join in by sending them a playtest invitation from the game’s main screen. On this screen, if you look towards the lower right corner, you’ll spot an “Invite Friends” button, highlighted in a vibrant turquoise blue just beneath the matchmaking status and Discord invite widgets. Click on this button to open a new window displaying your friends. Move your mouse over their names, and an invite button will appear.

Currently, Deadlock invitations might show up within half an hour or could take up to two days. Encourage your friends to check their Steam inbox regularly so they don’t overlook your invite. If they have linked their accounts with the Steam mobile app, a notification will pop up on their phones as soon as the invitation is sent.

How Many Friends Can You Invite To Deadlock?

It seems there’s no restriction on the number of people you can invite to play the game with you. Feel free to extend invitations to as many as you wish. You can even share invites with strangers online through platforms like Discord or Reddit. All you need is their Steam friend codes, and you can follow the steps outlined earlier to send them an invitation. It’s important to note that although Deadlock includes hero shooter aspects, it plays more like classic games such as Dota and League of Legends in terms of gameplay and feel.

When Will The Deadlock Playtest End?

As of now, there isn’t a set end date for the Deadlock playtest, but considering how Valve typically handles playtests for games like Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2, it’s reasonable to assume that Deadlock will remain in playtest phase until the game is officially launched.

If your buddies are already playing the game and you all wish to join forces, simply click on the “Play with Friends” button situated beneath your user profile in the upper-right corner of the main screen. This action will open a new window displaying your friends’ list. From here, any invitations you send will directly invite your friends to your gaming party.

Instead, consider extending invitations to strangers in your lobby using party codes. To execute this, navigate to the ‘Play with Friends’ section, and click on the “Create Party Code to Share” button. This action will place you in a party that can be accessed by anyone who possesses the code, which is conveniently located above the list of party members.

After gathering everyone together, simply navigate to the ‘Play’ section of the menu, where various team activities await. Choose one, and watch as everyone is arranged accordingly. Select your characters, collaborate on strategies, and let the superior strategy carry the day. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the matchmaking timer displayed on the main interface.
