How to Make Career Mode in FC 26 More Immersive

As a big fan, I think Career Mode is the absolute best way to experience EA Sports FC 26, and this year they’ve really stepped it up! They’ve added some awesome new features like a manager market where you can see who’s available, random events that keep things interesting, and they’re fully simulating player stats now, which adds a ton of depth to the whole experience.

To truly immerse yourself in Career Mode in FC 26, players might want to add a few personal touches. The following suggestions will help make Road to Glory, team rebuilds, and other challenges feel more realistic, with the ultimate goal of feeling like you’re managing a real football team rather than playing a game.

Set Up Career Mode Correctly With Realistic Settings

To create a believable Career Mode experience, the initial setup and settings are truly key. They’re what make transfers, the behavior of AI teams, and other aspects of the game feel authentic and realistic.

  • Youth Player Quality: Current Overall
  • Gameplay Type: Authentic
  • Wind Effects: Default
  • Weather Effects: On
  • Training Plans: On
  • Player Training Drills: On
  • Development Rate: Normal
  • Transfers: Disable First Window (Unless doing a Live Start)
  • Negotiation Realism: Realistic
  • Transfer Approaches: Strict
  • Scouting: Normal
  • Board Expectations: Strict or Harsh
  • Manager Market: On & Tough
  • Deeper Simulation: On
  • Financial Takeover: Disabled
  • Unexpected Events: On & High

Getting the difficulty level just right is also important for a realistic experience. If players are finding the highest difficulty setting too simple, try enabling manual controls, as this will significantly increase the challenge of things like passing.

Switch Commentary Language To Match The League

The game’s commentary will automatically be in your language. But, if you want a more realistic experience in Career Mode, you can change the commentary to match the league you’re playing in. This can also make the game feel new and exciting, particularly if you’re playing in leagues from different countries than usual.

For those who enjoy a good challenge, you can take things a step further by changing the game’s language entirely. This creates a situation similar to a manager relocating to a foreign country and needing to pick up a new language, where they don’t fully understand what the players or the board are saying. However, it’s important to have a good understanding of how FC 26’s menus and key Career Mode features operate, or you might find yourself stuck. Having at least a basic knowledge of the new language would also make this experience much easier.

PC players need to set the game’s language before starting. On Steam, you can do this by right-clicking FC 26 and selecting Properties, then changing the language setting. Once you’ve switched, the necessary commentary files for that language will download, and you’ll be able to change the language within the game itself.

Give Managers Real Names

FC 26’s Career Mode introduces a new Manager Market, allowing managers to be fired or switch to different teams. However, the realism of this feature varies by league. Leagues like the Premier League and both Spanish divisions feature authentic, real-life managers, while other leagues will use randomly generated names, making the Manager Market feel less genuine.

Fortunately, players can personally enter the correct names for managers before beginning Career Mode, and they’ll automatically have the right nationalities and a reasonably accurate appearance. To adjust manager names, navigate to Settings from the main menu, then move your cursor over the ‘Create a Player’ section and scroll down to ‘Edit Manager’. Be aware that this process might be time-consuming, as you’ll need to save the changes after each name alteration and then reopen the menu. Changing names for every league would be very lengthy, so it’s best to focus on the nation you intend to play in, like all the managers in the EFL.

Okay, so if I’m creating custom manager names, they’ll only show up in Career Mode when I start with current squads. Just a heads-up – it won’t work if I use a live start point or an ‘initial squads’ setup. Basically, gotta be playing a Career Mode that begins with the teams as they are right now for it to register!

Watch Out For Cup-Tied Players & Players On Loan Against Their Parent Club

Career Mode, sadly, doesn’t quite get all the little details right in football. For instance, in the real world, players who are loaned out aren’t allowed to play against the team they were loaned from, but FC 26 doesn’t stop this from happening. So, if you want a more authentic experience, you’ll need to keep track of and apply these rules yourself. This also adds to the challenge of picking your team, making some games feel extra special.

Another thing to be aware of is cup-tied players. Certain competitions have a rule that prevents players from playing for a new team if they’ve already played for their previous club in the same knockout round before being transferred. A good example is the EFL Carabao Cup, which begins during the Summer Transfer Window but continues after the January Transfer Window for teams that advance. You can use player stats to check if any new signings have played in the cup previously. Unfortunately, other teams usually won’t point out these rules, so you might find players you loaned out competing against you.

Use Season Stats To Scout Players

The new Deeper Simulation feature lets players simulate 5 extra leagues and see full stats. These stats are now more interactive – you can click on top goalscorers or players with the most clean sheets to scout them or add them to your shortlist directly. It’s a faster way to find talent!

This introduces a fresh approach to player scouting in FC 26, and it feels authentic. If a player suddenly becomes a top scorer in the real world, many clubs will take notice. Therefore, players should focus on leagues where they can realistically sign talent for Deeper Simulate, and regularly check player stats to find promising prospects. Average Rating is a particularly useful stat to consider.

Research A Club Before Managing Them

When a manager joins a new club in the game, they’ll naturally want to learn about it, and you can do that in FC 26 as well. This helps build a connection with the club and allows you to impact choices to create a more authentic experience.

Some things to look out for when researching are:

  • Previous players who could be signed at the end of their career for a poetic last dance.
  • Previous players who fell out with the club and shouldn’t be signed again.
  • Which current players have been at the club the longest or have made the biggest impact.
  • The last time the club won a certain title or competition, especially for sleeping giants in Career Mode.
  • The previous season’s stats and recent finishes in the standings, some of these can be seen in-game.
  • What kind of players the club signs. For example, some teams shop around in certain countries more than others.
  • How important youth development is to the club.

If you’re playing as a real manager, they could also be researched.

Other Tips To Make Career Mode More Realistic In FC 26

There are many other factors to keep in mind when you’re aiming to create the most realistic Manager Mode experience in FC 26.

  • Delegate to Buy: In real life, managers aren’t always the ones negotiating face-to-face, with this varying between clubs. The delay of a few days is also more realistic.
  • Choose a Team Whose Manager Was Sacked: This is a more realistic start than taking over a club who were doing fine.
  • Consider the Club’s Location: This can impact signings, loans, and make players aware of rivalries.
  • Free Transfers: Real teams utilize pre-contract agreements for future free agents, especially in lower leagues.
  • Don’t Sign False Free Agents: At the start, some players are listed as Free Agents, despite them having teams in real life that aren’t in the game. For example, there are many Mexican Free Agents, as the Mexican League is not included.
  • Use Multiple Tactics & Formations: Real teams switch up their style based on their opponents and availability.
  • Sign From Relegated Teams: At the end of each season, look at teams that just got relegated, as their stars would likely want to remain in their current league.
  • Lookout For Linked Clubs: The Red Bull teams, the City Football Group, and those with the same owners, such as Watford and Udinese, often sell or loan players between one another.
  • Don’t Restart Matches: Losses are part of the experience.
  • Mods: PC players have the option of mods, which aim to make Career Mode more realistic.
  • Authentic Gameplay: This setting means more randomness and more realistic results.
  • Stadium Names: Edit stadiums before starting to give them their real names, especially for teams in your league.

These suggestions are mainly for Manager Career Mode, but some – like changing the commentary language and doing player research – can also be useful in Player Career Mode.
