Parrying is a key skill in Ghost of Yotei, letting you dodge tricky blue attacks and then launch a strong counterattack. However, the parry timing can sometimes feel a little awkward. You might press the L1 button to parry and still get hit by an enemy’s weapon, which can be frustrating even when you think you timed it correctly. If players want Atsu to perfect parry every single time, they’ll need to adjust an important setting, detailed below.
How to Increase Parry Timings in Ghost of Yotei

To make parrying easier in Ghost of Yotei, you’ll need to go to the Gameplay Settings and choose Custom Difficulty, then set the Timing Windows to Easy. This setting controls how precise your timing needs to be for parries and dodges. Putting it on Easy significantly expands the window for successful parries and Perfect Parries, making it more forgiving. Here’s a more detailed breakdown of the process.
- Click Options on your controller
- Press R1 to reach Settings
- Hit X on Gameplay
- Scroll Right on the D-Pad to change the Difficulty to Custom
- Scroll Left on the D-Pad to change Timing Windows to Easy
If I really want to get better at parrying, I’ve found some armor pieces in Ghost of Yotei that can help. The Armor of the Undying actually makes the parry timing more forgiving, giving me a bigger window to nail those Perfect Parries and Perfect Dodges. I got it by finishing the Undying Samurai Mythic Tale over in the Ishikari Plain. Another option is to use the Bounty Master Armor, which also widens the Perfect Parry and Perfect Dodge windows, but it does disable regular parries. I had to complete 4 bounties in the Yotei Grasslands and then grab it from Soma the Condemned.
To perform Perfect Parries, first ensure you’ve unlocked the skill within the Onryo Attacks skill tree. This is a necessary step before you can successfully use them.
