Shortly after beginning your adventure in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake, you’ll notice red doors and chests. You won’t be able to open them right away – you’ll need to find a special key first. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about the key and show you where to find all the red doors and chests in the game.
The locations section in this guide is a work-in-progress and will be updated in the upcoming days.
How to Open Red Doors & Chests in Dragon Quest 1 Remake
As a big fan of Dragon Quest 1, I’m excited to share that you’ll get the Thief’s Key by completing a section of the main story! Once you’ve been to the Shrine of Rain, you’ll need to head to Galenholm and then the Roadside Inn, finally finishing up at Craggy Cave. Once you’ve explored Craggy Cave, you’ll receive the key, which unlocks all the red doors and chests throughout the game. It’s a really important item, so don’t miss it!
All Red Door & Chest Locations in Dragon Quest 1 Remake
Once you get the Thief’s Key in Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake, you’ll be able to unlock red doors and chests. This guide details where to find these locked areas and what rewards are hidden inside.
Tantegel
The building on the northeast corner of Tantegel has two red doors. Once inside, interact with the pot near the wizard to get a Seed of Life. You’ll also find a green and a blue chest upstairs, but you’ll need to find the keys to open them first.
Galenholm
The building on the north side of Galenholm has a red door. Behind that door is a dock, and on the right side of the dock, you’ll find a red chest containing an Arriviste’s Vest.
In Dragon Quest, after going through the red door, players will find a blue door and should come back to it once they have the correct key. There’s also a path leading to Grave a Galen, where you can discover a mini medal, the Whistle scroll, and other items.
Kol
Okay, so I found this building on the west side of Kol – it’s got a red door. When I went inside, I ran into a Royal Guard I could chat with, and even better, there’s a pot hiding a Seed of Luck! Definitely worth checking out.
Cave of the Dwarves
When you enter the Cave of the Dwarves, go up and to your left to find a red door. Go down the stairs past the door to reach level B2, then head to the bottom-left corner. You’ll find some barrels containing an Oaken Club, a Ten Ton Toupee, and a Fur Vest. Next, go up the stairs on the right side of the area and follow the path to find a chest with an Ice Shield.
A second red door is located in the Caves of the Dwarves on level B1, and it leads to the rest of the dungeon.
Once you have the blue key, you can go to area B3 and unlock the blue door in the upper-right corner. Inside, you’ll find two red chests containing a Strength Ring and a set of Tectonic Plate armor.
Citadel of the Monarch of Medals
Inside the Citadel of the Monarch of Medals, you’ll find two red chests. One contains a Phial of Sage’s Elixir, and the other holds a Reheal scroll. There are also blue and green chests available, but you’ll need to find the correct keys to open them.
Secret Spot
Hidden within the twisting desert lies a Secret Spot, which leads to the Weeping Isle. Inside, you’ll find a red chest containing a Strength Ring.
