How to Play as Recon in Marathon

Need to sneak past trouble and gather resources, or maybe show off your fighting skills to earn favor with a group? Marathon‘s recon shell gives you the edge you need to outsmart your opponents.

Recon is an intelligence expert with advanced technology for finding threats, including sonar and a tracking drone. However, it might take some practice to master all of their abilities.

To survive in a fast-paced, competitive shooter like this, you need to be fast, accurate, and stay calm. But it also takes careful planning and strategy.

As a big Recon fan, I’ve put together a guide to help you really nail the timing of their abilities. It’s all about using them at just the right moment to get the most impact and become a super strategic player!

Recon Abilities, Explained

Echo Pulse (Prime): Activate your shell’s advanced detection systems, releasing a series of sonar pulses that reveal the location of nearby hostiles.

Tracker Drone (Tactical): Deploy a mechanized microbot that tracks down nearby hostiles and explodes, overheating any targets caught in the blast.

Interrogation is a special ability: if an enemy runner targets you, you’ll automatically get a warning on your screen. Also, if you successfully take down an enemy runner with a finisher move, it alerts their team.

The Stalker Protocol trait causes enemies to leave a temporary, holographic trail after their shields are destroyed, making them easier to track.

The Recon shell is useful for all types of players. It lets you surprise enemies in player-versus-player combat, or sneak around undetected to gather resources while still being aware of any dangers nearby.

Recon Strategies

Recon’s drone is a really powerful tactical ability right now. It’s useful in a ton of different situations, making it one of the best in the game.

Use your drone to eliminate the UESC forces shown, but only when you really need to. It’s important to know when to use your abilities and when to save them for when they’ll make the biggest difference.

Recon’s drone is really effective against AI enemies, but it’s especially good at tracking down players on the run. If you’re facing a team that’s holed up in a building, fly the drone in first to scout ahead and help you clear the area.

Now’s the perfect moment to use Recon’s ability – it deals significant damage and disrupts enemies, making it much easier for your team to secure eliminations.

Recon’s main skill, Echo Pulse, emits seven sonar waves that highlight nearby enemies with a red dot, as shown in the image.

We were suddenly attacked, but I immediately activated the Echo Pulse. This showed us where the enemy team was, allowing my squad to quickly counterattack.

Using sonar is great for protecting yourself from surprise attacks, but it’s also helpful when you’re trying to find and track enemy squads, letting you quickly locate them.

You can also use Echo Pulse when exfiltrating to ensure no campers are present.

Best Team Composition

The Destroyer class combat specialist is incredibly powerful in battle, equipped with a wide range of tools. However, it could be truly unbeatable if it had better intelligence gathering capabilities.

Combining the destroyer and recon shells creates a powerful ‘search and destroy’ effect. The recon shell’s sonar and tracking systems pinpoint targets, letting the destroyer focus entirely on eliminating them.

If your teammates are engaging enemies, use Recon’s sonar to find them, launch your drone and destroyer, and move to support them.

The destroyer quickly reacts to information from Recon, relentlessly pursuing any leads. Meanwhile, the triage team stands ready to treat injuries and keep the destroyer operational when the situation becomes dangerous.

To succeed with this team, make sure your ‘destroyer’ character has all the support they need. Triage is incredibly helpful because it provides a lot of healing and quick revives, making it one of the strongest support options in the game.
