In the final stages of the previous game, there’s an abundance of opportunities for players to acquire loot and enhance their power. A significant portion of the effort is invested in the Echoes found within the Monoliths of Fates, where rewards are plentiful even without additional strategies. However, players can amp up their progress by employing the Corruption mechanic.

In the final stage of Last Epoch, known as the Monolith of Fates, corruption plays a significant role. It has the power to alter both the challenge level and the loot you receive upon defeating Echoes. However, this aspect isn’t immediately apparent, so here’s a guide on how to make the most of it.

How to Gain Corruption in Last Epoch

To accumulate Corruption stacks in your current timeline, you’ll need to engage and overcome the Shade of Orobyss, a boss commonly encountered at the border of an Echo web (which represents your timeline’s randomly generated network of interconnected Echoes). Follow the usual procedure when passing through a Monolith, and once you reach the edge of the web, look for a tile labeled “Echo of a World” where the Shade of Orobyss resides.

As a gamer, I step into the enigmatic world known as the Echo, ready to face off against its formidable boss. Defeating this mighty foe will send ripples through the timeline, increasing its Corruption level by an amount specified within this mystical realm. However, the degree of Corruption I acquire upon victory is directly proportional to the distance between the Echo of a World and the starting point of the timeline. The farther away the Echo lies, the greater the amount of Corruption I’ll gain.

Defeating Shades of Orobyss will reset your current Echo web.

On regular sequences, the maximum number of Corruption stacks is limited to 50. However, in empowered timelines, there are no limitations on Corruption stack accumulation. Moreover, defeating an Empowered Timeline’s boss rewards a Gaze of Orobyss, which enhances the amount of Corruption you acquire from your next Shade of Orobyss kill.

What Does Corruption Do?

In a timeline, each instance of Corruption enhances both the wellbeing and offensive power of adversaries, simultaneously boosting your Experience Points (XP) earnings and elevating the quality of looted items.

As corruption increases, so do your potential rewards, but be cautious not to overstep, or else you risk reaching a critical point that could lead to a system reset and require a new timeline.

How to Reset Corruption

If you find yourself excessively increasing the Corruption, don’t worry! You can rectify this by visiting the “Sanctuary of Eterra,” a location typically situated near your “Echo Origin” on the Monolith of Fates. Upon completing this location, you have the option to either diminish the timeline’s Corruption slightly or completely revert it to its original state, offering you a smoother gameplay experience if you wish to fine-tune your build.
