I’m really getting into StarRupture! It’s a lot of fun running around the planet looking for stuff like Helium, but when I’m not doing that, I’m building up my base. And honestly, the world is pretty wild – I keep spotting some seriously strange creatures while I’m out exploring!
The native creatures of this planet, known as Vermin, are hostile. They resent your presence and will attempt to invade your base and force you to leave.
If your base has been taken over by Vermin, you’ll need to fight to get it back so you can use it again. Here’s a guide on how to reclaim your base in StarRupture.
How to Tell if Your Base is Infected

You’ll first see a blue fog surrounding the area. This fog is contained by your base’s shield, but it will infect you the moment you come near your base.
You’ll also notice blue markings appearing on all the buildings at your base. These will fade away gradually as you eliminate the infection.
Buildings won’t be usable while they’re contaminated. You also won’t be able to access your base because the entrance to your living area will be broken.
Eventually, enemies called Vermin will attack in groups. After you defeat each group, a new one will appear shortly after, continuing until the area is completely cleared of infection.
It’s best to arm yourself with powerful weapons before going into an infected zone, because you’ll face continuous attacks once you’re there.
How Does Infection Affect You?
I just got back to my base after a long trek across the planet, searching for those vital blueprints, and things looked… wrong. A weird blue fog had rolled in, completely surrounding my base. As I got closer, I realized it wasn’t fog at all – it was filled with Vermin, and they were definitely looking for a fight!
As you approach your base, you start to feel sick. This illness causes several harmful effects on your character.
When you enter the infection cloud, you’ll immediately stop being able to heal. This means healing items won’t work while you’re inside it, making it harder to stay alive.
Another significant consequence is that your shields will be disabled. They’ll begin to fade, and once they’re down, they won’t recharge until the infection is cured.
Cleansing Your Base of Infection
To get rid of the infection in your base, you need to reach the Base Core. The infection happens when the Vermin manage to reach it.

Search the area around the Base Core for a large, blue cyst. It’s usually quite noticeable, appearing either at the base of the core itself or about halfway up its height.
When you find the cyst, destroy it using any weapon you have available. Once it’s destroyed, the infection will gradually clear up and no more Vermin will appear.
When you see the prompt, approach your Base Core and press the E key to eliminate the infection. This will completely remove it from the Core, and your buildings will gradually return to their normal state.
