How To Recover Your Body In NieR: Automata

In contrast to its appearance, NieR: Automata employs rigorous roguelike gameplay mechanics, where dying at inopportune moments could result in severe consequences. These consequences include the potential permanent loss of items that you’ve spent considerable time searching for and upgrading, a setback that can significantly impact your late-game progress.

Upon death, there’s a brief window of opportunity for restoration, not an immediate loss that can’t be undone. This article delves into the process of death and offers insights on how to preserve the body to minimize permanent damage.

After you die, there’s still hope for recovery – here’s what happens when someone dies and tips for preserving their body to prevent lasting harm.

Death Penalty In NieR: Automata Explained

In the game NieR: Automata, when a character dies, any Experience Points (XP) earned since the last save are forfeited. Additionally, all currently active Plug-In Chips will be lost. However, you can easily acquire more Plug-In Chips and rebuild your loadout if you die. Some Plug-In Chips are rarer and may require a significant investment of in-game currency to obtain powerful ones. Upon respawning, the currently equipped Plug-In set will be empty, requiring you to choose a new loadout or select one of your saved presets.

In a different scenario, when you perish, the Plug-In Chips you’ve lost won’t be permanently gone. Instead, you get one chance to revisit the location of your demise and retrieve those chips, along with any XP that might still be there. However, if you die again before recovering your body, any chips from the same set that you had initially equipped will be lost forever.

Recovering Your Body In NieR: Automata

As a gamer, upon my untimely demise, my immediate objective becomes locating and retrieving my fallen form. A tiny blue icon representing my body will pop up on the map, allowing me to pinpoint its location. Once I navigate towards it, interacting with my body will return all my Plug-In Chips, but I’ll be faced with two options for what to do next: keep or discard the body.

Repair You won’t get back XP, but your old body will become an AI companion that will follow you around until its death.
Retrieve You will get back lost XP earned before your death since the previous save.

As a gamer, I find that regardless of my choice, I’ve got the freedom to reinstall my old Plug-In Chips just as they were, effectively disregarding my current chip setup. Alternatively, I can opt out of this and those recovered chips will be safely stowed away in my inventory for future use.
