How to Repair Shields in Jump Space

In Jump Space, your ship’s shields are your primary protection. If they fail, your ship is vulnerable to enemy attacks. Unlike many other games, these shields don’t recharge on their own, so you’ll need to actively repair and maintain them to stay safe.

Okay, so restoring shields in *Jump Space* took me a minute to figure out, but it’s actually not that hard. If you’ve played games where you manage a ship and crew before, it’ll feel pretty similar. But even if this is new to you, once you get the hang of it, keeping your shields up is a breeze!

How to Restore Shields in Jump Space

To get your ship’s shields working again, you’ll need Ship Shield Units. You can either create these using your ship’s Assembler – it costs 30 Materia to make each one, and you’ll get four units per creation – or find them by scavenging. But that’s not all you need to do!

After acquiring Ship Shield Units, head outside your ship and apply them to the damaged Reactive Armor plates on the hull. Your HUD will highlight the disabled plates with icons, guiding you as you repair your ship.

Currently, using a Ship Shield Unit completely refills one Shield point. However, you can only repair a Reactive Armor plate if its shields are totally gone. The repair option won’t show up until the armor is fully destroyed, so keep that in mind when getting ready for a fight.

Shield sections that have taken some damage won’t repair themselves, and you can’t force a Reactive Armor piece to recharge its shields before they’re fully depleted.

Ship Repair Tips and Best Practices

  • If you’re playing solo, craft a couple of shield unit batches and just leave them behind the pilot’s seat. If you want to keep the cabin clean and mess-free, there are shelves near the airlocks that you can use to store items.
  • If you’re on repair duty during a co-op session, bring a heavy weapon with you so you can help shoot down enemy ships.
  • When you find single Ship Shield Units while scavenging, leave them in front of a Reactive Armor piece instead of sending them to the ship’s storage bay.
  • Keep an eye out for Artifacts that can help your ship take more hits. The ones that reflect damage to enemies are especially good if your ship often takes damage.
