How to Save Conway in Borderlands 4 (Null and Void Quest)

Borderlands 4 features many side quests, and some continue the stories of important characters even after you finish the main game. The ‘Null and Void’ quest is one of these, letting you help the Outbounders escape Kairos using a ship originally used by Timekeeper’s forces. This quest involves finding the missing pilot, Conway. Here’s a guide to locating Conway by checking their Echo logs and rescuing them before it’s too late.

How to Start the Null and Void Side Quest in Borderlands 4

The Null and Void side quest becomes available after you finish the main mission “Rush the Gate” and defeat Idolator Sol in Borderlands 4. Once the battle is over and the Outlanders have successfully defended against the Timekeepers, head back to the Launchpad faction town and speak with Rush to start the quest.

Rush intends to use the wreckage of the attack ship to flee Kairos, but his pilot, Conway, has disappeared. He asks the players to locate Conway, which begins the side quest “Null and Void” in *Borderlands 4*. Players must find Conway and return with them to Outlanders.

Track Conway’s Location via Echo Logs

So, after I took on the Null and Void mission, I had to head to where Conway was last seen. The first place I hit was the Wreck of the Nostalgia, and let me tell you, it was crawling with Rippers! I had to clear them out as I went. When I finally got to Conway’s hideout, it was deserted, but I found the first Echo Log right near her bed. It was a pretty creepy find, honestly!

To continue the search for Conway, head to the next marked location. There, you’ll find another Echo Log near where she was scouting. This log will tell you Conway’s last known location – a hideout used by the Rippers. When you arrive at the quest marker, be prepared for an ambush. Fight your way carefully to the large door to start the next part of the quest.

Retrieve & Deliver Hangry Ripper’s Takeout Order

The leader of the Ripper gang, Chugs, thinks you’re the food delivery person and won’t let you in unless you find their missing order. You’ll need to head to the beach, marked on your map, where the delivery vehicle crashed and takeout boxes are scattered. Collect ten boxes and bring the order back to the door to gain entry.

The door will open, and someone will ask you to put the delivery order on a nearby table. But be careful – they’ll get angry very quickly about the late delivery, and you’ll end up in a confrontation with the Hangry Rippers.

I kept battling those Hangry Rippers until there weren’t many left. Then I finally made it to the back and found Conway stuck in a locked cell! But the reunion didn’t last long – a crane picked up the whole cell and moved us somewhere else. That’s when the final part of the Null and Void quest kicked off in *Borderlands 4*.

How to Save Conway from the Void

Once you’ve reached the locked cell, you’ll come to a large, open portal where Conway’s life is at risk. Defeat the enemies surrounding the portal, then locate the controls for the crane to lower Conway to safety.

A crane stands across from Conway’s cell, but be careful – the operator, known as Erector Ed, is hostile. He’ll throw metal pipes and create a damaging ground pound if you get too near. Keep your distance and use weapons like SMGs or assault rifles to defeat him.

After defeating the crane operator, walk around the side of the large crane to find a ladder. Climb to the top and flip the switch, which is meant to move the cage away from the void portal. Since the cage won’t move, you’ll need to redirect the power from the implosion drive to shut down the void portal instead.

First, locate the valve closest to the locked cage and activate it. Then, find the remaining valve to finish powering up the starboard engine.

Okay, so I found this door to the left of Conway’s cage, and going through it lets you get to the other side of that area. And guess what? There’s another valve over there! Turning it finishes rerouting the power to the starboard engine, which is awesome!

Next, climb onto the platform to your right. You’ll see a switch on the console in the middle. Turn the switch on to finish redirecting power and close the void portal below Conway’s cell.

The pilot of the Outbounder is now safe from the abyss. However, Chugs, the leader of the Hangry Rippers, will appear to fight you. Chugs isn’t too difficult to defeat – you need to find openings in his shield to do damage. If you have a shotgun, you can destroy the orbs that power the shield and cause it to explode.

After you defeat Chugs, Conway will be freed, and the other Outbounders will arrive. This finishes the “Null and Void” side quest in *Borderlands 4*, giving you an SMG, some cash, and a unique cosmetic skin called Vault Hunter Style (Out of Bounds).
