How to Save in Grayeyard Keeper

Now that Graveyard Keeper is available for free on Steam and PlayStation 5, many new players are discovering the darkly humorous world of medieval cemetery management. It’s a bit tricky to figure out how to save your game, and the game warns you that any unsaved progress will be lost if you exit. Luckily, saving is easy: simply go to bed, and your progress will be automatically saved, preventing you from losing all your digging, chopping, and repair work!

How To Save Progress In Graveyard Keeper

In Graveyard Keeper, you save your game by sleeping in your bed. When you wake up, look for a book and quill icon โ€“ that means your progress has been saved.

Like relaxing games such as Stardew Valley, Graveyard Keeper lets you go to bed whenever you want. A unique feature is the ability to sleep for short bursts instead of a full night. This is especially helpful for saving your progress โ€“ you can quickly wake up and barely lose any time in the game.

There don’t appear to be any auto-saves, so make sure you always sleep before exiting the game.

Where To Find Your House & Bed?

Okay, so at the start of the game, they walk you through the graveyard and up to this locked church. But the bed you’re looking for isn’t in the church! You actually find it back at your house, which is northeast on the map โ€“ it’s labeled ‘Sweet Home’, so keep an eye out for that.

Enter, and the bed is in the left-most room of the house.

Do You Need To Sleep In Graveyard Keeper?

Besides saving your progress, you can also regain energy by sleeping in Graveyard Keeper. Your energy level is shown by the blue bar on the screen. You can sleep until fully restored, or wake up whenever you choose. The sun and moon in the top left corner show what time of day it is.

As you get further into the game, I’ve noticed something cool โ€“ if you gather enough food, you almost don’t need to sleep! It turns out food and drinks actually give you back energy, which is a huge help.

What Happens If You Die?

If you’re worried about losing your progress when you die and considering constantly saving by sleeping, don’t bother! There are no penalties for death in this game. You’ll automatically respawn at your bed with all your belongings and full health, even if you haven’t saved.

In Graveyard Keeper, death functions a lot like a quick teleport back to the graveyard, with a bit of healing thrown in. Some players actually take advantage of this to quickly move around the map, only losing a little time if they choose to return to where they died.

That being said, it’s still good to save frequently in case of the game crashing or similar issues.
