Okay, so there are a TON of tricks to master in Skate 4, and once you get the hang of things, you can start pulling off seriously cool stuff like Smith grinds. Honestly, you *need* to learn Smith grinds eventually because some of the challenges actually require them. I’m still working on getting consistent with them, but they’re definitely worth learning!
A Smith grind is when you hook the front of your skateboard under a rail while grinding. It’s a bit challenging because you need to quickly move the controller stick in the air *before* your board touches the rail. But once you learn the timing, Smith grinds become easy to do in *Skate 4*.
How to Smith Grind in Skate 4
To do a Smith grind in *Skate 4*, you’ll need to find something to grind on – a curb will work, but rails are easier. San Vansterdam has several staircases with metal rails that are great for practicing. You can also find good spots by skating on top of certain buildings.
After finding a good grinding location, you can perform a Smith grind by quickly moving the right analog stick sideways and then making a quarter-circle upwards motion. The direction you approach the grind from matters, so adjust your position if needed. Remember, you need to be in the air, so first perform an Ollie to get some height.

To successfully do this trick, you’ll need to angle your board so the front is lower and you grind using the back wheels while the front is lifted. It might take some practice to get comfortable, but it will become easier with repetition. It’s much simpler to land when you have good speed, so try skating a distance before hitting the rail to gain momentum.
Smith grinds are notoriously difficult in *Skate 4*, but mastering them means you’ll be prepared for anything the game has to offer. Take a look at the complete list of tricks and start practicing now to get ready for future challenges!
