In Act 1 of Mewgenics, you’ll find The Throbbing Domain. One of the first challenges is a room with an altar that seems to require you to sacrifice a cat. Many players find that simply sacrificing a cat results in its death, ending the attempt. This guide will show you how to correctly solve the altar puzzle in The Throbbing Domain, allowing you to progress and reach the Throbbing King.
How to Solve The Throbbing Domain Altar Puzzle in Mewgenics
When you reach the Throbbing Domain, you’ll encounter a disturbing altar made of veins and flesh that asks for a sacrifice. You’ll have to decide whether to sacrifice one of your cats who’s been traveling with you, or to refuse. While you can sacrifice a cat if your Luck stat is high enough, it’s best to ignore the altar for now and come back after defeating Guillotina three times.
After defeating Guillotina for the first time, you’ll receive the Throbbing Gristle. Bring this item to the fleshy wall at the end of The Caves, and it will open one side.
Okay, so after I beat Guillotina again – seriously, that fight! – I got the Putrid Leach as a reward. Then I had to take that thing all the way to the artery at the end of The Boneyard. That opened up the Throbbing Domain, which was cool, but it turns out I wasn’t quite done yet. There was still one more step to take!
You’ll fight Guillotina one last time, and defeating her will earn you Guillotina’s Head. Put it on one of your cats, then go through either The Caves or The Boneyard. This will lead you to the Throbbing Domain, which will appear on the map after the boss battle.
This next part will be significantly more challenging. Having Guillotina’s Head equipped makes every fight tougher, as enemies will prioritize attacking the cat wearing it. However, any enemy that touches or attacks this cat has a chance of becoming ‘Feared,’ and your standard attacks also have a 10% chance to inflict Fear.
Put the headgear on one of your cats – preferably one you’re not too attached to. Let’s just say, if you were considering sacrificing a cat to begin with, things aren’t looking good for this one.
Now, the cat with Guillotina’s Head should be the one to approach the altar. You’ll see the sacrifice option has a ‘!’ icon instead of relying on chance.
If you choose to sacrifice your cat, this will happen: Your cat will be placed on an altar, and the room will begin to shake. The altar will then flip over, pulling your cat down into a dark, pulsating pit of flesh. The walls will shift and open, luring any other cats into this terrifying place!
After that, you’ll see a somewhat unsettling scene confirming the death of the cat you sacrificed. This will then grant you complete access to the Throbbing Domain. Before you can challenge the Throbbing King in a secret boss battle, you’ll need to complete a quick run through the area.
