How to Solve the Fault Hunting Puzzles in Borderlands 4

A new side mission in Borderlands 4 asks players to investigate strange tremors shaking Carcadia. You’ll need to find Leopold in the Ruined Sumplands to learn more about how these tremors are affecting the Electi. The mission, called Fault Hunting, takes an interesting turn when you discover a self-aware Order synth. But don’t expect a simple shoot-and-loot experience – this mission focuses heavily on puzzles. We’ve created a complete walkthrough, including optional objectives and puzzle solutions, to help you navigate Fault Hunting from start to finish.

How to Find the Facility Entrance in Fault Hunting

How to Search Area 0/2 in Fault Hunting

Once players have visited the Society for Amateur Seismology Enthusiasts west of Carcadia and spoken with Leopold, they’ll head to the Rumbling Cleft. Inside the cave, they need to defeat the Creeps that have made it their home. After defeating the Creeps, a geyser will appear, but it’s best not to interact with it immediately. Players can also complete an optional task by finding the Seismic Damage ECHO Log near the broken drill before the bunker door, and then inspecting the door itself.

Once you’ve collected the optional clues, enter the geyser – this will launch your character upwards. Then, turn towards the ledge on the northeast side and double-jump to gain extra height. Use your jetpack to glide across and reach the ledge, after which you can simply follow the path leading into the facility.

How to Open the Facility Door in Fault Hunting

How to Get Through the Facility

As players progress deeper into the facility, they’ll discover the door ahead is broken and won’t open normally. It repeatedly opens a little, then slams shut. To get the door working, stand to its left and shoot the power source that’s briefly revealed each time it partially opens.

You can now go through the door and drop down into the next room. There, you’ll have the option to search the server room. To do this, just look at the area with the Creeps and the broken Order bot. Then, go to the south side of the room and check out the power source.

How to Direct Power to the Server Console in Fault Hunting

Fault Hunting Puzzle #1 Solution

This video explains how to solve the power puzzle in the facility. It involves using the grapple hook to connect blue railings, creating a circuit from the power source. We’ll show you exactly how we did it, starting with the railing closest to the power source and detailing each rotation.

  • Rotate One Time
  • Rotate Three Times

Once the puzzle is solved, the circuit is finished, allowing players to access the server console and use ECHO-4 to hack it. Be warned – hacking will trigger an enemy attack! After defeating the enemies, players can go back to ECHO-4 to learn what to do next in the quest.

How to Reach Genone in Fault Hunting

Genone Facility Location

Now that the server has been compromised, players can leave the facility to find Genone. You can exit through the newly opened south room or use fast travel on the map. Your destination is the Yawning Yard in Lopside, Carcadia Burn. There, you’ll find a cliff edge – drop down to discover a hidden cave entrance leading to a locked facility door. As you approach, Genone will invite you inside, but be prepared to fight Creeps. Once you’ve dealt with them, proceed through the facility, where you’ll eventually face powerful synth prototypes – essentially enhanced versions of the Order forces.

Fault Hunting Puzzle #1 Solution

Now that you’ve defeated the Order forces, you can begin the second puzzle for this side mission. This involves redirecting power from the generator on the south side of the room to the locked door on the east side. Like the first puzzle, you’ll use your grapple hook to place rails and complete a circuit. This time, there are more rails to work with, and you can even open a second door to get a free Red Chest! You can watch the video above for a solution, or follow the detailed instructions below. Remember to start by placing the first rail at the generator.

How to Confront and Beat Genone in Fault Hunting

Genone Legendary Loot Drops

Now it’s time to defeat Genone, but first, go through the door you unlocked with the puzzle. You’ll enter a room that seals shut, and gas will start filling it, but don’t worry, it won’t hurt you. Head north until you find a ladder and climb up to reach the area before the boss fight. Make sure you’re equipped with a Shock weapon and either a Corrosive or Cryo weapon, as Genone has a shield protecting his first health bar and armor protecting his second. When you’re ready, drop down into the arena and start the fight. Be aware that Genone has supporting troops, so deal with them quickly to avoid being overrun. He mainly attacks with Shock damage that spreads, so keep moving to dodge his attacks.

Genone can be farmed for the Oscar Mike and Recursive Legendary gear!

Where to Find the Control Room Keycard and Power Down the Facility in Fault Hunting

How to Shut Down Genone’s Facility

Now that Genone is defeated, you can finally shut down the factory. Head around to the back of the cylinder where you fought him to find the Facility Override – Clearance Zadra keycard. Use this keycard to open the door on the south side of the stairs, then flip the switch inside to power down the facility and complete the quest. You’ll be rewarded with Cash and XP! And remember, you can always return later to farm Genone for his unique Legendary items.
