How to Start Shine Bright like a Gemstone in Pokemon Legends Z-A and Catch Diancie

Players of Pokemon Legends Z-A can now receive a special gift online: a Mega Stone that allows them to evolve Diancie, a rare Mythical Pokemon from the X and Y games. Claiming this gift also unlocks a new side quest where you can actually catch Diancie! This guide will walk you through how to start the ‘Shine Bright like a Gemstone’ quest and add Diancie to your team in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Make sure you’ve finished the main story and seen the credits in Pokémon Legends Z-A before trying to start this side quest. It won’t become available until you do.

How to Claim Diancite Stone in Pokemon Legends Z-A

  • Press X to enter the main menu
  • Hit ‘Link Play’
  • Select ‘Mystery Gift’ and then choose ‘Get Via Internet’
  • Choose ‘Shine Bright like a Gemstone’
  • The new mission will now be available in-game, and you will get the Diancite Stone for Mega Evolution

How to Start Shine Bright like a Gemstone in Pokemon Legends Z-A

After you get the Diancite and unlock the new side quest in Pokemon Legends Z-A, it won’t show up in your quest log right away. To begin the quest, you’ll need to fast travel to the Looker Bureau and talk to Detective Emma, which is located northwest of the Rouge Sector.

When you arrive at the agency, talk to Emma’s Espurr, Mimi, to begin a cutscene. Mimi will sense something unusual because of the Diancite you have, and Emma will ask you to follow her to investigate. This starts the side mission, “Shine Bright Like a Gemstone.”

How to Complete Shine Bright Like a Gemstone and Catch Diancie in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Leave the agency and meet Emma southwest of Wild Zone 3, near the Pokemon-Amie and Lysandre Cafes. After you’ve spoken with her, go to Quasartico Inc. in the Magenta Sector. Then, head southwest to the Magenta Pokemon Center and find Emma by the Holovator. Take the elevator to the rooftops and go to the top of the building northwest of your location – you’ll need to go around the side to get there. (Check out the video below for help finding the way!)

Once you’ve finished your final conversation with Emma, Carbink and Diancie will appear on the rooftops, ready to battle. This is your chance to catch the Mythical Pokémon!

Diancie will appear at level 70 and is especially vulnerable to Water, Grass, Steel, and Ground-type attacks. Lower its health, then use an Ultra Ball (or any Poké Ball you prefer) to try and catch it. Don’t worry if it doesn’t work the first time – the battle will simply restart, giving you endless opportunities to catch it. We personally managed to catch it using a Dusk Ball during the night.

Once you’ve completed the mission, you can give Diancie the Diancite, allowing it to Mega Evolve during challenging battles.

Completing this side mission will reward you with 10,000 Poke Dollars and an XL Candy. When you capture Diancie, it will know the moves Diamond Storm, Stealth Rock, Draining Kiss, and Moonblast.
