How to Switch Characters in Visions of Mana

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that Visions of Mana has taken me back to my roots. Reminiscent of the classic JRPGs from my youth, its intricate combat system and diverse cast of characters have piqued my interest. However, it wasn’t until I stumbled upon your guide that I learned the secret to mastering the game – switching characters!

Just like many great Role-Playing Games (RPGs) with a variety of characters, Visions of Mana offers a unique party-based combat system by allowing you to switch between playable characters. However, it might not be obvious at first how to do this in Visions of Mana. Our goal is to ensure you make the most of your party, overcome any adversary, and enjoy diverse combat styles!

How to Swap Playable Characters in Visions of Mana

In Visions of Mana, you can change characters by tapping either the ‘Up’ or ‘Down’ buttons on your controller’s D-Pad. The character you are currently controlling in battle will always be displayed at the bottom of the party screen, located on the left side of the screen. Tapping ‘Up’ will allow you to switch to the next character in line, while tapping ‘Down’ will let you swap back to the previous one.

In most cases during combat and exploration, you can change the characters you control. However, there are specific instances, particularly in story quests, where you cannot swap characters. In such situations, you’ll be controlling Val, our main character, and will have the ability to interact with your party within the game world.

When to Switch Characters

During both combat and exploration in the overworld, you’ll frequently change between party members. Although we haven’t yet discovered why it’s beneficial to switch characters during exploration (We’re still playing through the game!), switching in combat enables you to exploit your advantage by using character-specific skills.

Although we’re really enjoying Visions of Mana, it seems that the game isn’t doing too hot in terms of sales. It’s rumored that NetEase might be contemplating shutting down Ouka Studios, the team responsible for this project.
