How to Transfer Oil and Other Resources in Frostpunk 2

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating through frozen wastelands and building thriving societies, I must say that Frostpunk 2 has truly captured my attention. The intricacies of resource management and exploration have left me both challenged and captivated.

In simpler terms, “Frostpunk 2” is an engaging city-building survival game where multiple layers of gameplay intertwine. At first glance, it might seem overwhelming, but as you delve deeper, it immerses you in its continuous fight to establish a flourishing civilization.

One feature of the game that players can delve into early is traversing the Frostlands with specialized teams for exploration. At first glance, this may appear as a secondary aspect of the game, but it significantly contributes to advancing the storyline and aiding players in acquiring the resources essential for survival during the nuclear winter.

As you traverse the wilderness, you’ll encounter numerous interactive spots offering various choices. Certain ones will allow you to secure a substantial cache of resources for your city’s stores, while others will enable you to establish an extraction route to tap into the resources found at that specific site.

To gather reserves, dispatch a Frostland expedition team of the required size. They’ll return with supplies, which you can track on the Frostlands menu as they gradually move towards your hub, represented by an icon. Similarly, to establish supply lines, players initially need to explore the location and then link it with their main city using Trails or Skyways.

To advance past Chapter 1 in the story mode, players must locate and establish a new settlement at the Old Dreadnought. Once set up, they will be able to extract oil from this location and transport it back to their main base. After the colony is established, they can begin gathering resources from that site as well.

When you initially set up your colony, you’ll find that the resource needs differ from what you have in your primary city. Moreover, the resources mined in the colony stay put unless the player moves them via the resource transfer interface.

  • On the top right of your screen, you’ll see the Expeditions icon which lets you explore the Frostlands. After you’ve established a colony, you’ll see a small icon next to it.
  • Click that icon to open up the colony menu, which will show you your city and colonies. Clicking either the colony or city icon will bring up a context menu with a few options.
  • The eye icon will let you change your location to the specified colony, the people icon will let you transfer the population, and the box icon will let you transfer resources.
  • Click the box icon to bring up a menu which lets you use a slider to determine which colony gets how much of each resource.

The capacity for moving resources simultaneously is restricted, based on the links between your settlement and your urban center. Exceeding this limit by attempting to move more resources than your trails and skyways can handle will cause the transfer button to become unclickable.

  • After you’ve adjusted the sliders to your liking, click the transfer button on the bottom of the menu to initiate the transfer.
  • You can transfer population between the two colonies in a similar manner, using the people icon in the colony context menu. Keep in mind that only a certain percentage (roughly 60-80%) of the population will end up in the workforce.

In Frostpunk 2, the amount of resources you can move between your colony and hub is determined by the nature of the connection between them. If your connection is via Trails, then you’ll be able to transfer a maximum of 500 resources at once, with 250 resources being transferable from each location.

Having numerous links between your colony and the hub won’t affect the maximum amount you can transmit or receive.

Should they opt for Skyways to establish their connections, they’ll be dealing with a cap of 600 on each side, equaling a total of 1200. While Skyways may come at a slightly higher price than trails, I can assure you it’s an investment worth making. They streamline the process of resource exchange, taking the strain off both your colony and your hub, making life significantly easier.
