Pokemon Champions is a major update to the competitive Pokemon battling scene. It introduces a central location for ranked, player-versus-player (PvP) battles, allowing Trainers worldwide to test their skills and teams against each other. Plus, players can now bring their favorite Pokemon over from Pokemon Home to use in these battles.
Want to connect your Pokémon games and bring Pokémon you’ve trained from titles like Pokémon Legends Z-A, Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and Pokémon Sword & Shield? This guide will walk you through the process, step-by-step. It also details which Pokémon can currently be transferred in Pokémon Champions.
How to Transfer Pokemon from Pokemon Home/Other games to Pokemon Champions
To move Pokémon from Pokémon HOME to Pokémon Champions, simply log in to your Pokémon HOME account. Then, in the main menu, choose the “Transfer to Pokémon Champions” option, which you’ll find in the bottom right corner.
Before you can start, you’ll need to transfer Pokémon from games like Pokémon Sword & Shield or Legends Z-A into your Pokémon HOME box. You also need to finish the tutorial and unlock the Recruit Ranch in Pokémon Champions.
After you’ve put the Pokémon you want into your Pokémon Home boxes, select them one by one (by pressing the ‘A’ button on your Switch or Switch 2). When you’ve chosen all the Pokémon you want to send, press the ‘Y’ button to send them to visit the Pokémon Champions.
When you transfer Pokémon to Pokémon Champions, their strength will be adjusted to match the game’s standards. Powerful Pokémon you’ve already trained will have their levels and stats converted accordingly. Once a Pokémon is transferred, you can’t train or modify it further – this is to ensure fair play and prevent cheating. Any changes you make to the Pokémon in other games might not be reflected in Pokémon Champions.
Next, head back to Pokemon Champions and open the Recruit Ranch menu. Then, choose ‘Collect from Pokemon HOME’. A new menu will appear – select ‘Collect from Pokemon HOME’ again to confirm your choice.
Once players receive Pokémon in the game, those Pokémon are permanently added to their teams. However, if a player sends Pokémon to Pokémon HOME, they can later retrieve them. A list of Pokémon transferred to HOME will appear, allowing players to send them back to their HOME Boxes.
Remember to move your Pokémon out of Pokémon HOME before you try to send them back to their original games.
- Visit Pokemon HOME again, then select Pokemon Champions (it will be marked with a ‘!’ sign)
- Follow the instructions to return your Pokemon to the Pokemon HOME Box.
This action will revert Pokémon to how they were before any changes, but they’ll keep their Nature, Effort Values (EVs), and learned Moves. However, you can’t transfer Pokémon with held items from Pokémon HOME to Pokémon Champions—meaning Pokémon with Mega Stones can’t be sent from Legends Z-A.
How to Link Pokemon Home and Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2 Accounts to Mobile
If you don’t already have a Pokémon HOME account, here’s how to download the app on your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2.
- Enter Nintendo eShop with your user then browse Pokemon HOME, download the app.
- Launch Pokemon HOME from the main menu using the Nintendo Account you want to link to (select your user).
- When asked if you are using Pokemon HOME on your mobile device, select Yes if you will also use the smart device version of Pokemon HOME (recommended).
- If asked if you have linked a Nintendo Account to the mobile version, select Yes or No to complete the first-time setup.
Next, players should choose the two games they want to connect. For example, if you’re using Pokemon Champions, select it, and then…
For the Mobile App (iOS – Android), follow these steps:
- Download Pokemon HOME on your mobile device from the Google Play Store or the App Store.
- Launch the app on your mobile device.
- Select ‘Link your account‘ to link the same Nintendo Account that you are using with Pokemon HOME on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.
