This rugged, unyielding combatant was my first introduction to the intricate world of ReFantazio’s character progression, and it remains one of my favorites to this day.
ReFantazio boasts more than 40 character types, many of which can be accessed by mastering a preceding character type from the same lineage and strengthening the connection with the protagonist’s supporters. Certain characters become available as the story unfolds, while others become accessible upon completion of specific sub-quests and conditions.

How To Unlock The Brawler Archetype In Metaphor: ReFantazio
Following the King’s funeral and an interlude, feel free to delve into the expansive world of Grand Trad. Within this realm, you’ll encounter side quests and bounties in the city, or you can immediately set course for the ominous Mausoleum Catacombs, a crucial storyline location. It is imperative that you conquer this dungeon within the allotted timeframe; otherwise, your mission to save the Prince will be unsuccessful. During your second expedition into the Catacombs, bypass the locked gates and make a beeline for a woman known as Catherina, who goes by the title of a Paripus Woman. She implores you to locate her friend, who is being held captive within the Catacombs, along with other hostages.
Delve into the underground labyrinth until you stumble upon a chamber locked from within. On the ground near a slumbering guard lies the key. Upon entering, you discover the prisoners inside and Catherina’s deceased companion. After conversing with a mournful Catherina, you finish the “A Friend in Need” mission, earning 5000 Reeve. From this point forward, Catherina will join your party, and you gain access to the Brawler Archetype, which can be mastered at More’s Akademeia.

For the Brawler Archetype, it costs 1200 MAGLA (MAG) to study. The Brawler is vulnerable to Ice-based assaults and resists Physical Strike attacks. In overworld combat, stronger enemies are more likely to be stunned due to the Hero Passive. The Brawler Archetype is unique as it specializes in inflicting Strike damage on opponents at the expense of health. Other skills for the Brawler are mainly passive abilities that increase the chance of critical hits, and this probability increases further if other party members select an Archetype from the same lineage.
Mastering the Brawler skill becomes essential as it unlocks the Pugilist, making subsequent boss battles significantly easier since many enemies tend to be vulnerable to Strike attacks later in the game.
