How to Unlock Floyd in Mortal Kombat 1: All 37 Floyd Klues Explained

Beyond the intense battles it’s known for, the Mortal Kombat series is also celebrated for its hidden characters and fights. Interestingly, several characters from the current lineup originally appeared as concealed fighters – popular choices like Smoke, Jade, and Noob Saibot among them. Given this history, it’s not shocking to discover that Mortal Kombat 1 also boasts a secret fighter of its own.

In the game Mortal Kombat 1, named after the British rock band Pink Floyd, players can find a pink ninja character called Floyd if they manage to complete a sequence of puzzling tasks. Defeating this mysterious character unlocks some fantastic prizes. The game unfortunately doesn’t provide instructions on how to do this, so it’s up to the gaming community to figure out these challenges on their own.

This guide wouldn’t exist without the contributions of @thethiny and other helpful individuals who assisted in data mining and solving the puzzles necessary to unveil the secrets behind the Floyd fight.

How to Unlock Floyd in MK1

To reveal the hidden Floyd fight in Mortal Kombat 1, gamers must accomplish a total of ten tasks from the list provided (which contains 37 tasks). The specific tasks you’ll need to complete are selected randomly for each player, as there seems to be no consistency in the selection. At this point, it appears that the only method to reset your challenges is by either losing against or defeating Floyd, resulting in ten new tasks being chosen at random. Unfortunately, there’s currently no way of knowing which tasks are active during gameplay.

Occasionally, Floyd might make an appearance during tower battles, offering clues to the players. However, it’s important to note that these clues may not necessarily relate to the ongoing challenges they are currently facing.

It’s great news that you can finish all 37 tasks in approximately an hour, and it’s even better that you can do this with a friend using two controllers in the 2-player versus mode. While it’s possible to tackle multiple challenges within a single fight, it might get tricky to keep count of how many tasks have been completed, so it would be wise to concentrate on completing one challenge at a time for easier tracking.

Once you’ve conquered the challenge or after winning the battle where it was achieved, the word “Floyd” will materialize on the left portion of your screen and a guitar melody will sound off. A short while following players finishing their tenth Floyd challenge, they’ll be instantly transported into a fight with Floyd and given three opportunities to defeat him in a best-of-three match. It’s important to remember that player two can also accomplish Floyd challenges, so you should disregard any “Floyd” messages that show up on the right side of your screen when counting.

As a gamer, I’d recommend taking on all the Floyd-related challenges with each character before tackling the actual fight, since it makes strategic sense to get familiar with each character’s unique skills in these challenges first, and then switch to your preferred character for the universal ones.
