Mega Evolution is a key feature in Pokemon Legends Z-A, playing a significant role in both gameplay and the story. Many Pokémon, including the starting Pokémon, have the ability to Mega Evolve in this game.
At the start of Pokemon Legends Z-A, players choose between Totodile, Chikorita, or Tepig. Each of their final evolved forms has a Mega Evolution stone available. While it’s possible to get all three Mega Evolutions in one game, unlocking them all takes a significant amount of time.
How to Get Other Pokemon Legends Z-A Starter Pokémon
When you begin Pokemon Legends Z-A, you’ll choose one of three starter Pokémon: Water, Grass, or Fire. You won’t be able to get the other two until you finish the main story and unlock the post-game content.
Once you finish Main Mission 37 – which becomes available after you’ve seen the game’s credits – you’ll unlock Wild Zone 20. This is where you can find all three of the starting Pokémon in Pokémon Legends Z-A, letting you complete your collection.
Wild Zone 20 features several Pokémon that players can start with, including the classic Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, which originally appeared in other Pokémon games.
Where to Get Starter Mega Evolution Stones in Pokemon Legends Z-A
When your starter Pokémon fully evolves, you can give it a special Mega Evolution stone. In Pokémon Legends Z-A, there are two different ways to obtain these stones.

- You will be gifted the Mega Evolution stone for your chosen starter pokemon in Legends Z-A after completing the Main Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution.
- Upon returning to Hotel Z, and after accepting all three of your companions’ missions, AZ will give you the Mega Evolution stone that corresponds with your starter for free.

- To get the Mega Evolution stones for the two starter pokemon you did not pick at the beginning of the game, you must roll credits, then head to the Stone Emporium (in the southern half of Lumiose City).
- The starter Mega Evolution stones will be automatically added to the Stone Emporium inventory after you beat the game.
In Pokemon Legends Z-A, each Mega Evolution stone for the starting Pokemon costs 100,000 Pokedollars. While you receive one for free after completing Mission 9, you’ll need to spend a total of 200,000 Pokedollars to obtain all three – for Meganium, Emboar, and Feraligatr.

Once you obtain this item, give it to your fully evolved starter Pokémon to hold. This will allow it to Mega Evolve during battle! As you fight, a Mega Evolution gauge will fill up at the bottom-right of the screen. When it’s full, press the right analog stick (R↓) to trigger the Mega Evolution!
