How to Unlock the Planetologist Class in Dune: Awakening

In the game “Dune Awakening”, the Planetologist skill tree offers beneficial and resourceful passive abilities that aid players in traversing Arrakis more effectively. It’s highly advantageous for players to unlock this skill early on in the game, but only if you carefully examine the starting area, as failing to do so could result in overlooking it entirely.

In the game Dune Awakening, every class comes with unique advantages, and although Planetologists might not be strong in terms of power or combat, they excel at making resource collection expeditions, whether early or late in the game, highly profitable. Here’s a guide on how to acquire this skill tree quickly.

How to Get the Planetologist Skill Tree in Dune Awakening

The initial priority is locating a trainer specializing in Planetology, and fortunately, there’s someone named Derek Chinara who can be found at a camp perched on a cliff above Imperial Testing Station 02, nestled within Hagga Basin South. If you’ve been keeping up with your Journey quests, you’ll eventually need to visit the testing station as part of the Sandbike Journey.

Talk to Derek and he’ll be willing to guide you through Planetology, however, you’ll have to locate a Minimic Film hidden within the Imperial Testing Station first.

Minimic Film Location

You can uncover the movie in a concealed chamber situated at the deepest part of the Imperial Testing Station, towards its conclusion. To access the chamber, make your way through the station until you come across a bookshelf adorned with a luminous yellow book. Engage with this book, and the shelf will move aside, unveiling the clandestine room. The Minimic Film is kept in a box on a circular table within this hidden chamber.

Unlocking the Planetologist Tree

As a gamer, I’d head back to Derek and receive the film from him, then he’d grant me access to the fundamental branches of the Planetologist skill tree. But, before these skills and perks become available for use, I’ll need to advance my character and allocate skill points to them, much like leveling up and investing points in other classes such as the Bene Gesserit.

In a nutshell, the Planetologist’s skills are all about efficiency:

  • The Scientist tree improves the power efficiency and resource gathering rate of tools.
  • The Explorer tree gives you an additional means of scaling terrain.
  • The Mechanic tree provides a variety of bonuses related to vehicles.

In the game Dune Awakening, players enjoy the freedom to explore multiple character classes without being tied to a single one. They can distribute skill points as they please into various class trees that catch their interest, but only after they’ve unlocked the class tree they want to combine (multiclass). Unlocking these classes requires interacting with specific NPC trainers and completing tasks or favors for them.
