In the game “Rise of the Ronin,” players will encounter situations where they must choose between two options that significantly impact their journey through the game. If you find yourself second-guessing a choice, it’s good to know that you can replay a mission without restarting the entire game from scratch.
The Testament of the Soul feature lets players experience all main missions in Rise of the Ronin again without starting a new save. It’s a great way to get some missable items, and as mentioned, you can use it to alter your current playthrough’s timeline in case you feel like you made a mistake. Here’s how it works.
How to Select and Replay Missions in Rise of the Ronin
After you complete the mission in Chapter 1 that leads you to Edo, you’ll gain the ability to replay missions in that city. In this quest, you and your anti-shogunate allies aim to save Shoin Yoshida from execution.
After the rescue attempt, players will be introduced to the Testament of the Soul, an interactable object that will let them pick and replay past story chapters. After the Sakurada Gate Incident quest (where players can get the Gikei-ryu Shinobi Combat Style), they’ll be able to use the Testament of the Soul from any Longhouse.
Changing the Timeline
The Testament of the Soul will players any of the major story missions that they’ve completed so far. Additionally, you’ll be able to see the outcomes of decisions you’ve made in specific missions.
By replaying missions that lead to different outcomes, you get a chance to rewrite the timeline. Your choices determine which characters live and die, which will affect things like item rewards, character Bonds, and the outcome of the main story itself.
In simpler terms, the users can utilize the Testament of the Soul to revisit previous locations by traveling back in time.
When you change the timeline, you’ll get the opportunity to select which outcome to use. This is useful for a number of things — by choosing a different choice, you can get all the rewards and other goodies tied to it while still maintaining your current timeline. This means that replaying missions can have zero impact on the decisions you’ve made thus far, making this system perfect for completionists.
You can repeat missions multiple times if desired, and if you wish to alter the ending of one specific mission, you’ll need to go through it from start to finish again. Any scenes that follow the conclusion of a finished mission will appear in your Testament of the Soul.
