How to Use Nose For Treasure in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

Okay, so in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, there are tons of Treasure Chests and cool items hidden all over the place. Most of them are pretty easy to find just by wandering around, but some are sneaky! For those, I definitely need to use Ruff’s Nose for Treasure skill – it’s a lifesaver for finding the hidden stuff.

Each map in DQ7 Reimagined contains chests, and collecting them all can be difficult. This guide will show you how to use Ruff’s abilities to locate all the hidden treasures.

How To Track Missing Chests in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

Once players rescue Ruff and free L’Arca from the curse, they’ll gain access to two special abilities that appear in the top-left corner of the screen and can be switched between.

  • Whistle (attracts enemies in the overworld).
  • Nose for Treasure (detects nearby hidden treasure and reveals the amount remaining in the zone).

Okay, so I figured out how to change the whistle to the ‘Nose for Treasure’ command! It’s pretty easy. You just go into the Game Menu, then System, and then Shortcuts. Then, on your second shortcut option, switch ‘Whistle’ to ‘Nose for Treasure’. It automatically sets it to Button 2 on PC, or the Right Arrow button if you’re playing on a console. Super helpful for finding stuff!

Now, go to any place and give it a try. A message will appear, telling you something like: ‘Ruff is sniffing around for treasure. There are 2 more treasures nearby that you haven’t found yet.’ This means there are a total of 3 treasures hidden in this area.

This section explains that the current area contains two hidden treasures. These could be chests, shiny collectibles, or smaller items concealed inside objects like vases, barrels, or cabinets.

The game also shows there are 3 hidden treasures left somewhere on the island. If you’re searching a specific location, like a house, and don’t find anything, this ability will let you know.

If players enter a building and use the ‘Nose for Treasure’ ability again, it will show them how many treasures are hidden inside. This information will only update if they actually find a treasure on the island.

This minigame, similar to using a metal detector, helps you find hidden treasures like chests, vases, cabinets, and other valuable items.

Just so you know, Monster Hearts won’t be found with the ‘Nose for Treasure’ ability unless they’re actually inside a Treasure Chest. Most Monster Hearts aren’t found in chests, so keep that in mind.

To find treasure across a larger area, players will need to repeatedly use Ruff’s ability to scan the world map, and then visit each location individually to pinpoint the treasure’s exact spot.

Now, to actually spot the treasures, players need to follow these simple tips:

  1. Always start searching outside buildings, breaking vases, and opening chests.
  2. Do a thorough search clockwise, then repeat the process counterclockwise, switching the camera angle to avoid missing any Vases or Barrels (they often contain Mini-Medals).
  3. Now, enter buildings one by one, and repeat the process, making sure to check every nook and cranny, and also if the buildings have several floors.
  4. Don’t forget to check Wells, and take note of locked chests to come back later using Fast Travel.

As you progress through the game, you’ll find a Thief’s Key (also known as a Skeleton Key) that lets you open locked chests. Keep in mind that some chests can only be opened by traveling to the Past or Present version of the island where they’re located.
