How to Use Photo Mode in Ghost of Yotei

Ghost of Yotei is a truly stunning game, offering a cinematic experience and richly detailed environments that you’ll want to fully appreciate. Luckily, the developers at Sucker Punch included a photo mode, allowing players to instantly pause the gameplay or a cutscene and freely edit the scene to create the perfect shot. This guide will show you how to use photo mode in Ghost of Yotei, helping you capture amazing moments from Atsu’s journey and even unlock the ‘Memento’ trophy.

How to Use Photo Mode in Ghost of Yotei

A Press of a Button Away

To activate photo mode in Ghost of Yotei, just press the right direction on the d-pad, and the game will pause instantly. You can do this while you’re playing or even during cutscenes, which is perfect for capturing dramatic moments – like when Atsu is battling the Yotei Six, for instance.

When you enter photo mode, use the left analog stick to move the camera, and the right stick to change its angle or rotate around the subject. You can adjust the camera’s height using the L2 and R2 buttons. Pressing up and down on the d-pad will open a range of additional editing tools:

  • Focal Length
  • Roll
  • Depth of Field
  • Focus Distance
  • Color Grading
  • Exposure Bias
  • Contrast
  • Particles
  • Particle Intensity
  • Wind Speed
  • Clouds
  • Time of Day
  • Weather
  • Animated Environment
  • Character Options
  • Emotes
  • Helmet/ Mask Options
  • Sword Glint
  • Aspect Ratio
  • Stamp
  • Music

Okay, so when I get the perfect shot in Ghost of Yotei, I hit the Share button – it’s on the left side of the DualSense controller touchpad. Then I select ‘Take a Screenshot’ from the menu. Just so you know, the game itself doesn’t have a way to take screenshots, so you have to use the PS5’s built-in feature. But honestly, it works perfectly, so it’s not a big deal at all!

Once you’ve finished editing your photo, remember to press the Triangle button. This will hide the editing options and on-screen interface before you capture your screenshot.

You can find all the photos you’ve taken with Ghost of Yotei‘s photo mode in your PS5’s Media Gallery. You can get to the Media Gallery from the menu on your home screen.

How to Get Memento Trophy in Ghost of Yotei

The description for the Memento trophy says: “Personalize a scene in Photo Mode,” which could lead you to believe a specific action is required to earn it. Luckily, that’s not true.

The trophy will unlock immediately when you leave Photo Mode, as long as you’ve made any change – like moving the camera, or adjusting settings such as camera roll, saturation, emotes, or brightness. You don’t even need to save a picture to get it!

There are other things we recommend doing early in Ghost of Yotei, but it’s also a good idea to get your own horse within the first few hours of playing.
