How to Use Plus Moves
Looking for a way to get ahead in Pokémon Legends: Z-A? While Mega Stones can boost your Pokémon’s strength, you don’t need Mega Evolution to become more powerful.
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you can make your moves stronger by using their Plus Move versions. These are enhanced versions of many existing moves, letting you gain an advantage in battle without relying on Mega Evolution.
Here’s a guide to using Plus Moves in Pokémon Legends: Z-A to improve your performance in battles, both ranked and casual.
What are Plus Moves?
Plus Moves are Pokémon moves that have been fully mastered, making them stronger when used in battle. You can identify a Plus Move by the plus (+) symbol shown next to it during a fight.
Okay, so when I use a Plus Move, it just hits way harder. It does a lot more damage, which is awesome, but it uses up my Mega Energy. Basically, every time I pull off a Plus Move, I see my Mega Ring’s energy bar go down. It’s a trade-off: more power, less energy!
Okay, so if you Mega Evolve one of your Pokémon, it’s awesome because all of its moves that can be Plus Moves just automatically become Plus Moves! That means even more damage to your opponent, which is a huge advantage in battle. It’s a really cool bonus of Mega Evolution!
How to Unlock Plus Moves
As you play, you’ll gradually unlock special versions of moves called Plus Moves simply by using them. The game will let you know when a move has been upgraded to a Plus Move.
Pokémon gain new abilities as they level up. Often, when a Pokémon learns a move, the game will also let you know if that Pokémon has fully mastered it, making it even more powerful – these are called Plus Moves.
You will be able to see what moves are Plus Moves for your Pokémon in the Moves menu.
How to Teach Plus Moves using Seeds of Mastery
After you win against Josée during the main story, you’ll be able to teach your Pokémon special moves called Plus Moves by using Seeds of Mastery. You’ll fight Josée automatically as part of the Rank D Main Mission because she trains at the Justice Dojo.
You can obtain Seeds of Mastery by defeating the alpha Pokémon that spawn near Lumiose City. Since there’s usually only one alpha Pokémon per area, they’re generally not hard to locate.
Alpha Pokémon are significantly more powerful than regular Pokémon, so be sure to use your best team when battling them. It’s also important to consider type matchups to give yourself an edge.
How to Use Plus Moves
Now that you understand Plus Moves, you’re ready to use them in Pokémon battles. When you’re battling and have targeted an opponent, press the plus (+) button.
Activating Plus Moves will make all your current moves available as Plus Moves until you use one. After using a Plus Move, you’ll need to press the plus button again to reactivate them. Remember that Plus Moves require energy from your Mega Ring, so they won’t always be ready to use.
