Players of Pokemon Legends Z-A – Mega Dimension can now obtain Hoopa and its powerful Unbound Form. This playful and mischievous Pokemon changes form and is fun to use in the game, but you’ll need to find the Prison Bottle before you can add it to your team.
This guide covers everything you need to know about Hoopa and its powerful Unbound Form in Legends Z-A. We’ll explain how to catch both forms, how to use the Prison Bottle to do so, and how to build the best Hoopa with the right moves, Effort Values (EVs), and Nature. Let’s start with the Side Quest that allows you to catch this Pokémon.
How To Get Hoopa In Pokemon Legends: Z‑A – Mega Dimension
You can unlock Hoopa in Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension by progressing through the main story to Hyperspace Mission 11 and finishing these additional objectives.
- Catch Groudon – Hyperspace Mission 13 A Ruby Red Legend
- Catch Kyogre – Hyperspace Mission 14 A Sapphire Blue Legend
- Catch Rayquaza – Hyperspace Mission 12 The Greatest Gift
Okay, so after finishing up those previous tasks, you’ll notice Taunite’s returned to Hotel Z, and she’ll have a little exclamation mark above her head. That’s your signal that you can start Side Mission 196, ‘The Djinn Unbound’!
Before battling Unbound Hoopa, be sure you have a Level 100 Donut. It’s also a good idea to have a Dark-type Pokémon in your party to handle Hoopa’s attacks effectively.
Taunie will quickly explain and then give players the Prison Bottle, an item that will make Ansha’s Hoopa very nervous. Once they have it, players need to investigate a strange 5-Star distortion that’s appeared in Lumiose City.
Head to the Bleu Sector 6 Shopping Mall and search the buildings in the northwest area for some scaffolding you can climb. Go all the way up to the roof, then look around to see which direction the Quest Marker is pointing.
Players should use Rotom Glide to reach the next rooftop, then climb a ladder and look down into the enclosed garden below to find the Distortion entry point.
After defeating the Gen form of Hoopa, players can approach it again to trigger a cutscene. This cutscene shows players using the Prison Bottle to return Hoopa to its normal, Confined Form.

Okay, so you’ve gotta catch Hoopa first! Then, the big thing is heading back to Ansha to figure out how its whole form-changing thing works. It uses this item called the Prison Bottle to switch between its two forms – Hoopa Confined and Hoopa Unbound – and honestly, it’s kinda like how Mega Evolution worked, which is pretty cool!
To help players build strong teams, it’s good to know that Hoopa in its Confined form excels at Special Attacks, while Hoopa Unbound is more effective as a Physical Attacker.
- For Hoopa Confined EV train it to have 252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Speed /4 HP. Pick Phantom Force, Psychic, Nasty Plot, and Hyperspace Hole or Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Psyshock, and Nasty Plot, with Timid Nature.
- For Hoopa Unbound, the right EV spread should be 252 Atk/ 252 Speed /4 HP, with Adamant nature. For moves, pick Zen Headbutt, Ice Punch, Gunk Shot, and Drain Punch for a nice coverage build.
