How To Use Stances In Black Myth Wukong

As a seasoned gamer with years of combat-centric titles under my belt, I must say that Black Myth: Wukong has truly captured my attention with its intricate stance system. The ability to switch stances mid-combat to adapt to any situation is reminiscent of the martial arts movies I used to watch late at night during my college years.

In the game “Black Myth: Wukong,” players are equipped with three different stances that can be swiftly transitioned between during combat. These stances determine the type of powerful attack you can execute in various scenarios, and they can be fortified with Focus points to inflict extra effects.

Every position offers a unique skill progression, which can be advanced to maximize the advantages of adopting a particular position. Positions are versatile, with each one having its own applications, allowing players to specialize in just their preferred style if they choose, similar to choosing Spirits. Here’s a guide on how to acquire, switch between, and utilize each position.

How To Unlock & Change Stances In Black Myth: Wukong

In the self-advance menu, the second option in Abilities will be the Staff Stances skill trees. The three main skill trees along the right side of the screen are the three stances, Smash, Pillar, and Thrust, with the Smash stance already being unlocked and equipped. Purchasing the first skill in the Pillar and Thrust trees will unlock the stance and let players switch to it anytime in combat, though the Thrust stance will require level 20 which is easy to reach by defeating all the bosses in the Black Wind Mountain.

By investing in skills within the Staff Stance branches, you’ll gain access to extra focus points displayed on the screen’s left side.

In the game, the stance you currently have equipped will be displayed in the lower right corner of your screen, accompanied by your accumulated Focus points. Changing stances won’t alter any previously earned Focus points, enabling you to choose the optimal attack for each situation. To switch stances on a controller, simply press the appropriate arrow on the D-Pad. If you’re playing with a mouse and keyboard, the button for each stance can be found in the skill tree; it won’t be visible on your screen.

Each Stance’s Heavy Attack

You have the option to switch among three different positions, and this action won’t affect your light attack. You can change your position at any moment, excluding during an attack sequence, and there’s no animation associated with it within the game, allowing for swift stance shifts before launching a heavy attack. While upgrading stances might not boost your base damage like certain pre-order bonuses, it can enhance players’ overall effectiveness in combat.

Stance Name Heavy Attack
Smash Stance Leap into the air and come crashing down with a powerful short-range attack.
Pillar Stance Perch on top of your staff out of range of many weak melee attacks, before swinging with the extended staff for a long-range attack.
Thrust Stance Stand still and charge up a powerful thrust that goes straight ahead for a long range.
