The highly anticipated Roots update has arrived for the popular co-op game PEAK. Similar to previous updates, it introduces a brand new biome filled with unique challenges. Players will also find a host of new items, including the Checkpoint Flags, which are already proving to be a hit.
Checkpoint Flags may seem simple, but they’re surprisingly useful once you learn how to use them. To get the most out of them, it helps to understand what they do. Here’s a brief explanation of how Checkpoint Flags work in PEAK.
What are Checkpoint Flags in PEAK?
Checkpoint Flags let you create your own respawn points within the game. When you set one, it marks a location, so if you die, you’ll restart right there. They’re incredibly helpful and can save you a lot of time, particularly during challenging sections.
Checkpoint Flags can only be used once. After you die and reappear, the flag is gone. You can place these flags anywhere on the map, even in the new ROOTS area. The great thing is, using a checkpoint restores your health completely when you respawn.
Checkpoint Flags are hidden inside luggage boxes throughout the area. While there are lots of luggage boxes, the flags themselves don’t appear very often. If you want to find a flag, your best bet is to open every luggage box you come across.
To make the most of your Checkpoint Flags, don’t place them at the very beginning of an area. If you use one too early and then die, you’ll have to restart from way back there. Instead, save them for difficult parts of the level so you can quickly resume your progress instead of having to climb or backtrack a long way.
It’s best to set a Checkpoint Flag right before a difficult climb. It’s a good backup plan in case you run into trouble. However, keep in mind that if you successfully get past the climb but then die later on, you’ll respawn at the flag. This means you’ll have to redo that challenging section.
Setting a checkpoint doesn’t unlock any rewards, but it can prevent you from losing progress. This makes it simpler to earn other achievements down the line.
