In Ghost of Yotei, understanding Weapon Alignment is key to successful combat, especially in the challenging lands of Ezo. On harder difficulty levels, like Hard and Lethal, maximizing your abilities – including mastering Weapon Alignment – is crucial for survival.
The game doesn’t explain “weapon aligning” very clearly, which can be confusing. But once you understand it, it’s actually quite simple. Here’s how it works:

What Does “Weapon Aligned” Mean in Ghost of Yotei?
How Does Weapon Alignment Work in Ghost of Yotei?
Weapon Alignment is a bonus that makes your weapon more powerful. It happens when you use a weapon against an enemy that’s especially weak against that type of weapon. When a weapon is aligned, it’s more effective.
- Heavy Attacks inflict much more stagger damage.
- Heavy Attacks interrupt enemy attack sequences.
The Dual Katana is particularly good against enemies who use spears or polearms. When Atsu fights a spear-wielding enemy with the Dual Katana, her weapon is properly aligned, maximizing its effectiveness. Using a standard Katana against the same enemy causes misalignment. While a misaligned weapon still deals damage, attacks are noticeably weaker.
Weapons automatically align themselves as long as you’re using the right type – no other steps are necessary.
In *Ghost of Yotei*, choosing a weapon works a lot like selecting a fighting stance in *Ghost of Tsushima*. Instead of changing your katana style, you switch to a different type of weapon.
