As someone who has journeyed through countless Hyrule landscapes and fought numerous battles against the forces of darkness, I must say that Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Tri fairy stands out as one of the most indispensable companions yet. This little powerhouse not only heals but also guides, creates echoes, and even serves as a key to exploring the Still World. It’s like having a Swiss Army knife… or rather, a Hyrulean Fairy Army knife!
Despite undergoing significant evolution throughout its history, a consistent element in the Zelda series has been the presence of fairies. From its inception, these magical beings have inhabited Hyrule. Initially found as enemies’ drops in The Legend of Zelda, later games like Majora’s Mask provided Link with a fairy companion called Tati. In Phantom Hourglass, Tati was replaced by Ciela, and now the latest addition to the series, Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, introduces the potent Tri. While they might resemble past fairies in certain aspects, Tri seems to be the most beneficial one so far.
In the series, fairies have primarily been employed to help heal Link during his journeys. On some occasions, these games also offer more functional fairies that aid in navigating Hyrule, and often play significant roles in the storyline. The fairies in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, represented by Tri, appear to surpass these duties, as Princess Zelda’s heroism might not otherwise materialize without them. Consequently, they could easily win over fans.
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Tri May Be the Most Useful Fairy Yet
Tri Brings a Lot to Princess Zelda’s Arsenal
In the opening scene of “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom“, I find myself witnessing Link’s disappearance into a puzzling abyss, leaving Princess Zelda vulnerable amidst Ganon’s fortress. Subsequently, she flees only to be captured by supposed allies in Hyrule Castle. Fortunately, the fairy Tri swoops in and presents her with the potent Tri Rod, enabling her swift escape. From then on, an exhilarating journey unfolds, brimming with the timeless charm and adventure that The Legend of Zelda series has consistently delivered to fans like me.
In the course of this journey, Tri stands as a reliable companion for Princess Zelda. They’ll assist her navigation through Hyrule, employing their ability to generate echoes, an essential element in the game mechanics. Moreover, they are the sole means for Zelda to enter the Still World securely, and together with their companions, they play a crucial role in sealing the rifts and preserving Hyrule. Their significance goes beyond that of an ordinary fairy due to their unique character traits, making them even more appealing.
Other Fairies Have Not Really Done What Tri Can Do
In the world of Legend of Zelda, Tri isn’t the first or probably the last helpful fairy character introduced. For quite some time, these fairies have primarily functioned as a means for Link to recover during his journey, with their healing capabilities varying between different games. They can be obtained as rewards from defeating enemies or discovered scattered around Fairy Fountains, and certain games even allow players to gather them in bottles for later use. However, the introduction of Zelda: Ocarina of Time took these fairies to a whole new level.
In Zelda: Ocarina of Time, players got their first experience of having a fairy companion, namely Navi, who assisted them by offering guidance or revealing enemy vulnerabilities. A change was introduced in Zelda: Majora’s Mask where Tati took over as the fairy guide, maintaining a similar role but with a more assertive demeanor. It wasn’t until Zelda: Phantom Hourglass that the fairy companion expanded its functions, with Ciela allowing Link to fire Sword Beams, use the Hammer, and even slow down time towards the end of the game. During this adventure, there were a handful of other fairies who joined in, each possessing unique abilities.
It’s clear that all those features are beneficial, but so far, the Tri fairy in “Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom” stands out as the most sophisticated and useful fairy in the franchise yet. Not only does it offer assistance, but its potent Tri Rod form is crucial to the gameplay experience as a whole. As the series progresses, it’s possible that future fairy companions could offer even more capabilities.
