Huge Nintendo Switch Leak Reveals Canceled Ridge Racer Game

Summary

  • A Ridge Racer game for the Switch was discovered in an early devkit build.
  • Nintendo has seen leaks of unreleased games before, including Pokemon titles.
  • Other leaked game titles include Arms, Splatoon 2, and Rime.

It appears that the Nintendo Switch may be approaching the end of its product cycle, yet there’s no sign of slowing down when it comes to leaks. Recently, an undisclosed developer kit filled with unlaunched games has been found, including a version of Ridge Racer specifically for the Switch that never made it to market.

Over the last few years, both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have experienced multiple data leaks. Notably, the Nintendo Gigaleak disclosed a vast amount of information regarding retro video games, given that Nintendo has maintained diligent record keeping for their older releases. However, this hasn’t significantly impacted games from the Nintendo Switch era, except for those related to Pokemon.

A fresh piece of news is circulating, according to Gaming Leaks and Rumours Reddit. Among these leaked titles is a Ridge Racer game that was initially slated for exclusive release during the early Switch years. This game’s footage can be found on the resetthepicture Twitter/X account.

Retro’s Pre-Metroid Prime 4 Game Has Been Revealed

Beyond Ridge Racer, an undisclosed game called “Harmony” has surfaced. This seems to have been created by Retro Studios before they shifted focus (perhaps temporarily) towards Metroid Prime 4. Harmony appears to be a platform/action-adventure game with a cartoonish feel and a protagonist who is a red-haired girl.

It’s reported that among the other games, there are supposedly debug versions of Arms, Splatoon 2, Rime, and an unpublished Lego Civilization game. The source of the development kit and the leak is not yet clear, but similar incidents have occurred in the past, such as when a StarCraft: Ghost build was discovered on an abandoned devkit.

It’s captivating to watch alternative scenarios play out in popular game series, such as this one with Ridge Racer. Regrettably, it seems this project was put on hold, but fortunately, the effort poured into it won’t disappear completely.
