A remarkably ambitious mod for Skyrim has transformed the game by replacing all non-player characters (NPCs) with real people. Called Keizaal Online, this mod creates a truly dynamic world where hundreds of players can participate and shape the game as living characters.
Since Skyrim was originally designed as a single-player game, fans have created mods to add multiplayer features. The most well-known is Skyrim Together, which lets you play the game cooperatively with friends. It took a long time to make Skyrim Together work well, as adding multiplayer to a game not built for it is challenging. But Skyrim Together kept all the original characters and quests, while Keizaal Online takes a completely different route.
Skyrim RP Mod Removes All NPCs
Keizaal Online is a new mod for Skyrim that aims to create a truly immersive multiplayer experience. It lets hundreds of players share a single, persistent version of Tamriel, the world of Skyrim. Players can find work, buy homes, and trade with each other, living out the life they choose β whether itβs as a simple farmer or a brave adventurer. Everyone contributes to the shared world in Keizaal Online. The mod also features a live map, allowing players to see which areas of the game are most active.
One of the most interesting features of this mod is that it removes all the non-player characters (NPCs) from Skyrim. According to Oren, the lead developer at Keizaal Online, this decision was made to create a more immersive roleplaying experience. He explained to Dexerto that removing NPCs forces players to trade with each other, heavily emphasizing the game’s economy β there are no shopkeepers to buy or sell from. This makes Keizaal Online entirely player-driven, leading to Skyrim experiences you won’t find in the standard single-player game.

The fact that Skyrim still receives significant modding support after nearly 15 years really speaks to its enduring popularity. In fact, the mods being created now are often even more complex and expansive than before. With Bethesda taking so long to release The Elder Scrolls 6, there’s no indication modders will be stopping anytime soon. Whether you’re looking for minor improvements or complete game overhauls, there’s a mod for every Skyrim player.

Roleplaying servers are increasingly popular in games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. The company behind the popular FiveM and RedM modifications for those games, Cfx.re, was actually bought by Rockstar Games in 2023, showing how much of an effect those mods had. Now, it will be exciting to see if Keizaal Online can achieve a similar level of success with Skyrim, as more people discover the mod.
