Hyper Light Breaker Shows off Upcoming Character Rondo in New Trailer [EXCLUSIVE]

Hyper Light Breaker, initially released in Early Access back in January 2025, continues to thrive, consistently providing useful updates driven by player suggestions to offer an optimal roguelite multiplayer experience. The upcoming update, dubbed ‘Buried Below,’ scheduled for April 29, promises to revolutionize the game’s roguelite structure and introduce a wealth of new content.

In this latest update, Hyper Light Breaker is set to overhaul its roguelite system to a single life format. A revamped tutorial will make it easier for new players to grasp the game, more weapons are being incorporated, and there will be additional points of interest in the Overgrowth to discover. To sweeten the deal, the game is introducing a new Crown, Maw, and a fresh Breaker character, Rondo.

In an exclusive preview, Game Rant got a first glimpse at the upcoming duo, Crown and Breaker, joining the roster of Hyper Light Breaker. Without a doubt, the agile Rondo is an exciting new character to add to the game’s eclectic group of playable heroes. Gamers looking to perfect their parrying techniques will find Rondo’s formidable abilities incredibly useful.

Hyper Light Breaker’s Rondo Rewards Skillful Melee Combat

The intro begins by presenting Rondo as a “quiet yet formidable mercenary” from the Shroud region. Rondo is depicted as exceptionally nimble, delivering swift and numerous strikes with a glaive. In this game, Rondo’s two companions, Sycoms—namely, Bladedancer and Reaper—are particularly beneficial for close-quarters combat. The Bladedancer Sycom boosts Rondo’s melee damage and attack speed, while the Reaper Sycom amplifies his flawless parries by causing bleeding wounds. Game Rant interviewed Lead Producer Michael Clark regarding this new character, who described Rondo thus:

Rondo, the latest Breaker, boasts two SyCom advantages that enhance different fundamental fighting techniques. With the Reaper bonus, adversaries in close proximity will bleed every time you execute a flawless parry. Meanwhile, the Bladedancer ability marks enemies for elevated damage when struck with a Flash Step.

In response to being queried if Rondo was developed based on player feedback, similar to many updates in Hyper Light Breaker, Clark stated, “For our remaining Breakers, we have a blend of concept sketches and prototypes. Breakers are intended to pave the way for distinct playstyles, so they’re not something we’d create reactively.” However, it’s important to note that Heart Machine doesn’t typically design classes based on player feedback. That said, they will certainly be observing how Rondo is perceived by Hyper Light Breaker’s community. A character who excels at performing precise parries seems like an appealing addition for skilled players in Hyper Light Breaker who wish to challenge their reflexes against new enemies appearing with this update.
