Hyper Light Drifter Dev’s Next Game Gets a Release Date

Heart Machine announced that the game *Possessor(s)* will be released on November 11th. This confirmed release date replaces the earlier, less specific plan to launch the game sometime in 2025.

Heart Machine, a game developer based in Los Angeles, is the team behind popular games like *Solar Ash* and *Hyper Light Drifter*. They released *Hyper Light Breaker*, a detailed action roguelike, in January 2025, and it’s currently available in early access. Five months later, they announced *Possessor(s)*, a visually striking side-scrolling action platformer. While it shares similarities with metroidvania games in its level design, it’s not strictly categorized as one.

Heart Machine Launches November 11 for PS5 and PC

Heart Machine has announced that *Possessor(s)* will be released on November 11th, published by Devolver Digital. This marks the first time Devolver Digital and Heart Machine are working together. The game will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC. While Heart Machine hasn’t confirmed if *Possessor(s)* will be available on other platforms, their previous games, *Hyper Light Drifter* and *Solar Ash*, were both released on Nintendo and Xbox. *Solar Ash* was initially exclusive to PlayStation consoles for a limited time, suggesting *Possessor(s)* might follow a similar pattern.

A new three-minute trailer revealed the release date for the game, and gave fans the best look yet at gameplay. The trailer highlights the unique weapons players can use, like an electric guitar that creates shockwaves and a hockey stick for sweeping attacks, as well as special moves for countering and quickly approaching enemies. While this is Heart Machine’s first side-scrolling game, its quick and exciting combat might appeal to players who enjoyed the fast-paced action of *Hyper Light Breaker*.

Beyond a change in viewpoint, *Possessor(s)* differs from Heart Machine’s previous games with its use of horror elements and focus on vertical movement, allowing for acrobatic maneuvers and even aerial combat. It feels more similar to *Hyper Light Drifter* than *Hyper Light Breaker*, as both games emphasize skillful play and fast reactions. While *Hyper Light Breaker* is a complex roguelite RPG, *Possessor(s)* delivers a focused, story-driven single-player experience.

Currently, the game *Possessor(s)* will only be available digitally. You can already add it to your wishlist on Steam and the PlayStation Store. While Heart Machine hasn’t announced the price yet, based on their past games, it will probably cost around $30 when it launches.
