Hypixel Studios has announced that Hytale won’t be released on Steam when it launches in January. They want to avoid potentially negative reviews during the game’s early access period.
Hytale, which was previously cancelled by Riot Games, has been revived by its original creators. It will enter early access on January 13th and will cost $19.99 for the basic game. While it won’t be available on Steam at first – and may never be – the developers are planning to release it on consoles.
Hytale Skipping Steam But Coming to Console in Future

In a recent Q&A on the Hytale website, executive director Patrick ‘Lyall’ Derbic explained that the game won’t be released on Steam initially. This decision is to prevent a flood of negative reviews from players who aren’t fully aware of the game’s features and direction.
We plan to focus on collaborating with players and making the game better. While Steam is a good way to reach people, we might not need to use it. We haven’t ruled out releasing the game on Steam, though.
The game will initially be available on PC through early access, with plans to release it on consoles and other platforms later. The developers want to prioritize creating a polished game before tackling the complex backend work needed for console releases.
A mobile version won’t be available when the game first launches in early access, and it’s currently unclear if it will be developed at all. Hypixel Studios is still figuring out if making a mobile version is even possible.
