“I don’t know why I subject myself to this level of torture”: Oblivion Remastered player spends 100 hours spamming the RPG’s most basic spell in the sewers, all to achieve a goal they set themselves as a child

Since its release in April, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has seen some incredibly creative – and sometimes game-breaking – player activity. Fans have been finding all sorts of interesting ways to experience the updated game from Bethesda Game Studios.

Ever since the remastered version of Oblivion came out, Elder Scrolls players have been discovering incredible and often unexpected ways to play – from incredibly fast travel across the game world to unbelievably powerful spells. One Reddit user, “Hippos_R_Us,” is showcasing their own unique creation, and asked others if they’re impressed or horrified by it in a recent post featuring a gameplay clip.

The video shows the players starting in the game’s sewers, repeatedly using the simple Clairvoyance spell. They eventually become experts in Mysticism. The reason? One player, Hippos_R_Us, shared that a friend once told them you could level up from *anything* in Oblivion, even jumping. So, they immediately tried it, and ended up maxing out their acrobatics skill while still in the starting jail cell.

Does this impress you, or disgust you? Explanation below from r/oblivion

By 2025, I had the somewhat foolish idea to try that stunt again, though I was a little behind schedule – I’d already done the acrobatics part. Then I wondered just how far I could push things. I’d already used my lock-picking and other skills, so I needed a new challenge. My plan was to become the most powerful character at level 1 and progress as far as possible before the emperor began his usual actions. It was at that moment they decided to unlock the power of Mysticism through Clairvoyance.

Seriously, I don’t know why I put myself through this, but I’ve sunk over 100 hours into this game now. And let me tell you, Mysticism with *only* Clairvoyance was the absolute worst build so far! But I finally hit level 100 today and can cross that off the list. It probably doesn’t make much sense to anyone else, but I think my younger self would be pretty impressed, and that’s a good feeling.

It’s understandable – the user admits it’s enjoyable to overcome obstacles from their childhood, but then jokingly wonders if their accomplishment is something to be proud of, or simply foolish.

It’s really quite impressive, and clearly done by someone who knows what they’re doing. Plus, it didn’t seem *too* difficult. In the comments, a user named Hippos_R_Us explained they actually did it while watching TV, simply by repeatedly pressing buttons on their Steam Deck.
