What’s particularly impressive is that Gearbox has managed to implement split-screen functionality in a game with expansive, non-tethered open zones – something quite remarkable!
However, it’s undeniable that I feel let down by the performance issues in the split-screen co-op mode. As a result, I was prompted to explore possible solutions for these problems.
As a passionate gamer, I stumbled upon a Reddit post by MacFit that offered an intriguing solution for improving the Borderlands 4 split-screen experience. After giving it a whirl, I can confidently say that switching the game to Local mode does seem to enhance performance significantly. It’s not a panacea for all Borderlands 4 split-screen problems, but it definitely runs smoother in my personal playthroughs.
To make the switch, head over to the main menu or pause screen and select Session Settings. From there, click on the dropdown menu next to Party Privacy and change it to Local Only. Although this tweak doesn’t completely eliminate the split-screen issues in Borderlands 4, you can still expect a noticeable improvement.
