So, I recently heard that Charlie Day, who voiced Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is totally up for doing a Luigi’s Mansion movie! He really loves those spooky games, and honestly, who doesn’t? He doesn’t know if Nintendo is planning one, but he said he’d jump at the chance to be Luigi in that universe. I’m crossing my fingers they make it happen – a Luigi’s Mansion movie would be awesome, and it’d be great to hear him back as Luigi!
The highly anticipated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is coming to theaters on April 1st, bringing back many of the original cast members. The first film, released in 2023, was a huge success, becoming one of the top six highest-grossing animated movies of all time. Now, fans are hoping to see Luigi’s Mansion adapted for the big screen, and the actor who plays Luigi has expressed his support for the idea.
Charlie Day Would Love to Star in a Luigi’s Mansion Movie
Before the new movie came out, Jack Day said he’d love to be in a spin-off based on the spooky atmosphere of the classic GameCube game Luigi’s Mansion. In an interview with ScreenRant, alongside his co-stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Keegan-Michael Key (who are returning as Peach and Toad), Day confirmed he’d be happy to reprise his role as Luigi if given the chance. He admitted it would be a challenge, but added, “If they make it, I’m in!”

Day mentioned he enjoys the Luigi’s Mansion games – there are three versions for home consoles and an arcade game from 2015. Even before The Super Mario Bros. Movie came out, some viewers spotted similarities to Luigi’s Mansion in the trailer. The trailer ended with Luigi running in fear through a fiery landscape, chased by Dry Bones, and then locking himself behind doors. That scene made it into the final movie, and while the film didn’t feature any ghost-vacuuming, many fans recognized that Luigi was central to the movie’s scarier moments, despite it being aimed at children.
Day expressed his support for a potential sequel and shared some thoughts on how to make it work. He suggested adding a few playful jump scares, but not turning it into a horror film for children. Anya Taylor-Joy and Key both agreed that incorporating these quick, video game-style scares could be fun, with Taylor-Joy playfully adding that even very young children enjoy them.
Currently, there are no plans for a Luigi’s Mansion movie. Charles Martinet, the former voice of Mario, has stated he hasn’t heard anything about being involved in a future Super Mario film either, jokingly adding that he’s probably not the best person to run a movie studio. However, if rumors about a Luigi’s Mansion 4 releasing for the next Nintendo console around 2025 prove correct, Nintendo might consider making another movie to capitalize on the game’s potential popularity.
