As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the Far Cry franchise has been a constant companion in my gaming journey. From the jungles of Insana to the frozen tundra of Hope County, I’ve seen it all. However, like many others, I’ve grown tired of the repetitive open-world formula that Ubisoft seems to be stuck on.
The Far Cry series is facing a critical juncture, as Ubisoft has been employing a similar open-world design for quite some time, not only in the Far Cry games but also in titles like Ghost Recon, Assassin’s Creed, and even the recent Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Consequently, some fans have expressed growing weariness towards this recurrent Ubisoft open-world structure.
Many eagerly anticipate that the upcoming Far Cry installment might break the mold and bring something fresh, introducing groundbreaking mechanics and a unique structure to delight players. If recent leaks are to be believed, Far Cry 6 could veer away from its predecessors in a substantial way.
A Tradition-Breaking Far Cry 7 Should Come with a Safe Alternative
Far Cry 7 Could Shake Up The Franchise’s Formula In Some Major Ways
Back in January 2023, Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming revealed a report suggesting that Far Cry 7 was being developed under the codename “Project Blackbird,” simultaneously with another multiplayer survival Far Cry game known as “Project Maverick. In September 2023, Henderson followed up with more details about Far Cry 7, disclosing some alleged story and gameplay aspects.
Based on Insider Gaming’s September 2023 report, it appears that the upcoming game, Far Cry 7, might include a 24-hour real-world limit, which is equivalent to 72 hours of in-game time. In these 24 hours, players will supposedly be tasked with rescuing their kidnapped family members from a secretive organization known as the “Sons of Truth.” The narrative of Far Cry 7 may not follow a linear path, allowing players to rescue their family members in any sequence they choose, which could impact the game’s final outcome.
It appears that the alleged concept for “Far Cry 7” might mark a significant transformation within the series, swapping out the traditional narrative structure where players can freely explore at their own pace for a time-bound, non-linear gameplay style. Such an overhaul aligns with the desires of some fans who have been seeking fresh, dynamic experiences from the “Far Cry” franchise for quite some time now.
Far Cry 7 Could Release Alongside a Remake to Keep Both Crowds Happy
However, while some enthusiasts might leap at the idea of Far Cry 7 venturing into uncharted territory, others would rather see the series maintain its core essence in a standard sequel. It seems prudent for Ubisoft to aim for a balance here, creating an innovative, rule-breaking Far Cry 7, all while launching a more conventional game simultaneously. This traditional counterpart could potentially be a remake of an earlier title in the series.
Considering that Far Cry 3, despite being one of the franchise’s most cherished games, has been around for over a decade, it seems ideal for a complete remake. However, some fans might have grown tired of revisiting Far Cry 3. In this case, an underappreciated game like Far Cry 2, which is somewhat overlooked in the series, could be a more suitable candidate for a remake. This would offer another chance for this hidden gem to shine once more.
Ubisoft could create a unique gaming experience for fans by revamping the original Far Cry game and including an enhanced version of the Far Cry Instincts: Evolution campaign as bonus content. This would provide players with the classic Far Cry open-world adventure, along with fresh elements to discover.
