With Team Cherry’s *Hollow Knight: Silksong* finally out, it’s hard not to feel a little disappointed that we still don’t know what’s happening with FromSoftware’s *Bloodborne*. I’m okay with *Bloodborne* not getting a port, remake, remaster, or sequel, mainly because the original game is still playable and loved on PlayStation 4. However, I wouldn’t mind seeing it come to PC, get a remaster running at 60 frames per second, be rebuilt by Bluepoint, or even get a brand new sequel from FromSoftware – I’m just trying to be realistic about it.
Until we get official news or a reliable leak about a new *Bloodborne* project, I’m content knowing I can always enjoy the existing game. Plus, if industry insider Jeff Grubb is correct, there’s no need to get excited about potential announcements at PlayStation events. He says there’s been no progress on a new *Bloodborne*, and it remains on hold. If that’s the case, I think an anime adaptation similar to the one for *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice* would be a fantastic way to expand the *Bloodborne* universe.
Sekiro: No Defeat is Life Support for an IP With Nowhere to Go
Sekiro: No Defeat, based on FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, isn’t a brand new game, but it’s a welcome addition. While games like Bloodborne and Dark Souls could potentially have sequels, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is special because it’s a single, self-contained adventure. It originally started as a Tenchu game before becoming its own unique IP, setting it apart from other titles.
While “Sekiro: No Defeat” doesn’t completely rule out a sequel, it’s unlikely to happen in the same way as a potential “Bloodborne” follow-up. “Bloodborne” created a larger, more expansive world that naturally lends itself to continuation, something “Sekiro” didn’t quite achieve.
The anime adaptation of *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice* makes sense because it focuses on the characters of Wolf and Kuro and their story. If the anime closely follows the plot of *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, it will have a consistent and understandable narrative, regardless of which ending it chooses to depict.
The story of *Bloodborne* is known for being complex and hard to understand during your first time playing. However, an anime adaptation would almost certainly feature the Hunter wearing the classic Hunter armor and wielding the Saw Cleaver – the game’s most recognizable look. Given that there’s already a *Bloodborne* comic series, it’s likely the anime could expand on the game’s story and content from both the original game and *The Old Hunters* expansion.
Bloodborne May Be Dead and Buried, But That Doesn’t Mean It Can’t Be Exhumed
While *Sekiro: No Defeat* isn’t a true sequel to *Sekiro*, it’s encouraging to see the series hasn’t been forgotten. As a big fan of both *Bloodborne* and *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, I’m glad *Sekiro* is still getting attention. Whether the anime’s success will lead to a new game is uncertain, but it’s a hopeful sign for the future of the franchise.
It’s been six years since *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice* came out, which makes me wonder where the time went! However, it hasn’t built as large or enthusiastic a fanbase as *Bloodborne* – maybe *Bloodborne* just has more fans overall. If people are eagerly asking for a new *Sekiro* game, they seem to be a relatively small group.
Honestly, a sequel to *Sekiro* would be amazing, it was such a fantastic game. But a lot of people think *Sekiro* works perfectly as it is, a one-off experience. If FromSoftware doesn’t have any more ideas for *Bloodborne* or *Sekiro*, I’m hoping we at least get some really great anime adaptations that do justice to how special and different those games are – they’re truly unique in everything FromSoftware has made.
