I’ve been really surprised by how much I’m enjoying ARC Raiders this year. I wasn’t sure about extraction shooters at first, but ARC Raiders has completely changed my opinion. I especially love the game’s story and the sense of mystery it creates. I’ve always been drawn to post-apocalyptic worlds, and this game offers a really interesting take on what life is like for people living underground.
It’s true that ARC Raiders isn’t the first game to explore a dark, dystopian future where humanity is threatened. Many games, like Horizon Zero Dawn, Fallout, Death Stranding, and Cyberpunk 2077, tackle similar themes, often questioning the impact of technology and the structure of society. I’m a big fan of these “what if” stories in any medium. Movies such as Elysium, Snowpiercer, and Mad Max, along with shows like Station Eleven and Westworld, are all excellent examples. Recently, though, I’ve been particularly captivated by the series Silo, and its focus on underground survival feels very similar to what ARC Raiders is going for.
This is a spoiler-free rundown of Apple TV’s Silo.
ARC Raiders and Silo Both Explore What an Underground Dystopian Society Might Look Like
The Main Features Shared Between ARC Raiders and Silo
- A society forced to live underground
- A powerful threat that makes the surface world unsafe
- The need to venture above ground for the sake of survival
The show Silo centers around Juliette Nichols, a talented engineer who uncovers a dangerous mystery that threatens the fragile world she lives in. This world is a massive, 144-level underground silo called Silo 18, home to 10,000 people. The close-knit, underground community within the silo will feel familiar to players of the extraction shooter game ARC Raiders, where a similar community called Speranza is central to the gameplay.
Both stories take place underground, but they’re quite different. In Speranza, people are working together to survive, while Silo focuses on a mystery about what’s happening on the surface, which Juliette gets caught up in. And in ARC Raiders, the underground city of Speranza is essential because dangerous AI robots are wandering the world above.

Silo and ARC Raiders Have Very Different Threats
What really sets Silo apart from something like ARC Raiders is the danger outside. In ARC Raiders, it’s these huge robots, but in Silo, it’s a mysterious, poisonous gas that covers the world. Both shows have a dangerous surface, but they use it in different ways. ARC Raiders sends people up there to scavenge for supplies, but in Silo, going outside is basically a death sentence, a punishment. It’s how the leaders of Silo 18 try to get rid of Juliette – they send her out to clean a camera lens, hoping the toxic air will finish her off. It really shows you how desperate and controlling things are inside the Silo.

Specifically, cleaning the exterior camera lens allows citizens to see the ruined world outside, reinforcing how important and delicate their underground life is. While ARC Raiders features dangerous environments like toxic swamps and gas grenades, the threats aren’t as severe or impactful as the bleak reality depicted in Silo.
Like ARC Raiders, Silo’s World Pulls You in From the Start
With so many dystopian stories already out there, it’s hard for new ones to feel fresh. However, both ARC Raiders and Silo manage to create worlds that feel detailed and realistic, largely thanks to their interesting backstories. Without the ever-present danger from the outside world, though, they risk feeling like retreads of familiar themes. ARC Raiders keeps the action intense for players, and Silo keeps viewers hooked as they try to unravel its mysteries.
Image via Embark Studios One of the biggest weaknesses of ARC Raiders is its shallow backstory. While this might improve over time, players looking for a richer narrative could enjoy Silo. ARC Raiders emphasizes action above ground, while Silo’s story unfolds entirely underground, offering a nice contrast. Silo suggests that the greatest dangers aren’t always external threats, but can lie within a society itself. Both games feature an underground world, but Silo particularly makes you question who you can truly trust.
Not Only is it Great for ARC Raiders Fans, But Silo is Also the Perfect Choice to Binge Over the Holidays
- Silo‘s third season has yet to secure a launch date.
- Filming for the season ended in May 2025.
While we don’t have a firm release date yet, the third season of Silo is anticipated to arrive in early or mid-2026. Fans waiting for the new season can also enjoy ARC Raiders to pass the time.
Because seasons 3 and 4 of Silo are being filmed at the same time, fans probably won’t have to wait as long for season 4 to arrive.
While not exactly like the world of ARC Raiders, Silo offers a similar experience that feels fresh and engaging. Silo is a mysterious, dramatic, and conspiracy-filled story set in an underground post-apocalyptic setting, making it a perfect choice for ARC Raiders fans looking for a compelling narrative.
