Immortals and NRG to Leave the LCS

Immortals and NRG to Leave the LCS

As a seasoned gamer with years of League of Legends under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of nostalgia as I hear about NRG and Immortals leaving the LCS. It’s like watching old friends move away just before a big party. The 2024 League Worlds was supposed to be the event where we all came together, yet it seems some key players are opting out at the last minute.

2024 has taken an unexpected turn for me as a gamer, with powerhouse esports organizations like NRG and Immortals announcing their departure from the League Championship Series (LCS), mere two weeks before the League Worlds event. The 2025 season is looming, and it seems that both NRG and Immortals are choosing to step away from the league completely.

NRG and Immortals to Walk Away From LCS

According to an LCS insider, Travis Gafford, it has been announced that these two organizations are set to part ways with the LCS for the 2025 season. Consequently, this leaves only eight teams competing in the league instead of the previous ten.

For a while now, Immortals haven’t been shining brightly in the competitive scene of League of Legends, which isn’t unexpected for many esports enthusiasts. On the other hand, NRG managed to secure the Championship victory last year, making them one of the more admired teams within the league.

Immortals and NRG to Leave the LCS

Following the announcement, it turns out that three League Championship Series (LCS) teams have secured a spot for League Worlds 2024. Unfortunately, neither NRG nor Immortals did not make the cut. The fortunate teams who qualified are none other than 100 Thieves, Team Liquid and FlyQuest.

Riot Games has revealed plans for a change in 2025, reducing the number of conferences from eight to six teams each. The current lineup for these six teams includes 100 Thieves, Cloud9, Dignitas, FlyQuest, Shopify Rebellion, and Team Liquid.

Why are the 2 Teams Leaving?

Currently, neither Immortals nor the other organization has provided any clear reasons for their departure from the League of Legends community. However, it seems plausible that Immortals may have decided to leave due to a decrease in visibility and competition involvement.

The departure of NRG from the LCS has left many puzzled. In due course, we might uncover the reasons behind their decision to part ways with the league.
