Injustice 3 Can Finish The Work Mortal Kombat 1 Started

As a fan who has grown up with both the DC universe and the Mortal Kombat series, I can’t help but eagerly anticipate the potential crossover of Invincible and The Boys characters in an Injustice game. Having witnessed the seamless integration of Homelander and Omni-Man into Mortal Kombat 1, it’s easy to envision how these darker superhero franchises could fit perfectly within the nihilistic Injustice universe.

As Mortal Kombat Studio (NetherRealm) keeps developing and launching content for Mortal Kombat 1, fans can’t help but ponder over the future of Injustice 3. Although there has been no official announcement, creator Ed Boon hinted that a third installment in the DC fighting game franchise is still possible. With the success of past Injustice games and the thriving DC gaming market, it seems unlikely that either NetherRealm or Warner Brothers would abandon the series. However, Boon emphasized that Mortal Kombat 1’s continued development remains their primary focus at the moment.

If NetherRealm ever decides to create Injustice 3, I firmly believe they should capitalize on the success of Mortal Kombat 1 in more ways than just gameplay or visuals. This includes their DLC characters as well. With NetherRealm’s reputation for incorporating guest characters into their fighting games, it would be fantastic to see two franchises that seamlessly blend with Injustice’s grim superhero setting: Invincible and The Boys.

Bringing Invincible and The Boys to the DC Universe

In the initial DLC lineup for Mortal Kombat 1, Homelander and Omni-Man were introduced as new characters. Both hail from Amazon Prime streaming series, and they share a common theme: twisted versions of Superman. The brutal nature of their shows aligns well with Mortal Kombat 1’s gruesome gameplay. However, due to their superhero origins, they could potentially be intriguing additions to the next Injustice game.

Addressing Mature Content from Invincible and The Boys

Some people might think that “Invincible” and “The Boys” are too adult-oriented to blend with the T-rated “Injustice” series, but the world of “Injustice” is already quite grim compared to its original comic version. All NetherRealm would have to do is reduce the graphic violence and any explicit language. It’s worth noting that “Invincible” has collaborated with “Fortnite”, a game known for its mature content, in the past. Moreover, many fans of “Injustice 2” were hoping for Rorschach, who shares similar levels of grittiness and violence, to appear in Fighter Pack 3.

Leaving maturity concerns behind, incorporating characters from either Prime series could lead to incredible confrontations and loads of amusing commentary. It would be a fitting development since both shows drew heavily on the DC universe. As for Homelander and Omni-Man, they might not make it into Injustice 3, as NetherRealm typically steers clear of reusing guest characters. However, if fans got to witness the authentic Superman making those two impostors eat their words, it would be an explosive revelation. If NetherRealm ever decides to add more characters from these universes, Invincible himself could be the most probable choice for an Injustice game.

The Pros of Having Invincible as a Guest Character

If NetherRealm had continued with the blue-and-yellow era of Invincible as the basis for the character, it might not have required any dilution at all. This version of the hero was previously able to interact with Spider-Man in the comics, so there’s no logical reason why he couldn’t engage with DC’s most prominent characters. Although Invincible’s powers already align well with Injustice‘s gameplay, he would provide writers a wealth of dialogue possibilities.

Engaging in banter with characters such as Green Arrow and Harley Quinn could inject some humor into Mark’s existence, while a chat with Batman might involve him playfully suggesting that the vigilante resembles Darkwing from the “Invincible” universe. Regardless of whether “Injustice 3” follows the storyline of tyrannical Superman or presents a more conventional version of the Man of Steel, any encounter between these characters could lead to some introspective discussions.

The Pros of Having Billy Butcher as a Guest Character

It’s possible, though less expected, that Billy Butcher from “The Boys” could make an entertaining inclusion in the cast of “Injustice 3”. Given his background and the need for some gadgets or temporary powers like Temp-V, he might find himself at a disadvantage among DC’s characters. However, his vibrant personality would undoubtedly cause quite a stir among both heroes and villains.
