Insider Gaming’s Best Action-Adventure Game of the Year 2025

Action-adventure games are becoming increasingly immersive and realistic. Thanks to the power of consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, we’re experiencing the highest quality games in the genre ever. The nominees for TopMob’s Action-Adventure award this year are all fantastic, but one truly shines as the best of 2025.

It’s really hard to blend the fast-paced excitement of a big Hollywood action movie with the detailed storytelling you find in a great adventure story, book, or game. When it’s done well, you get something truly special – the perfect combination of both worlds. TopMob has chosen four games that do this exceptionally well.

The breakdown begins with the winner.

Best Action-Adventure Game Of 2025 Winner—Hollow Knight: Silksong

TopMob had an early hands-on with Silksong at Gamescom 2025 and declared it was worth the anticipation – a prediction that proved accurate. Silksong is now considered one of the best Metroidvania games ever made, thanks to its cleverly designed levels, gradual unlocking of new abilities, and challenging boss fights.

Silksong stands out from most Metroidvania games by giving players a lot more choice in how they explore. It has many optional areas, bosses, and side quests, meaning you don’t have to follow a single path. While this freedom can sometimes be a way to take a break from the game’s high difficulty – it’s definitely not for casual players – the stunning visuals and wonderfully crafted enemies and worlds make the challenge worthwhile. You’ll need plenty of determination and patience to succeed, but the experience is rewarding.

It took a long time for Hollow Knight: Silksong to finally come out, but it was worth the wait.

Best Action-Adventure Game of 2025 Nominations

Ghost of Yotei

While Ghost of Tsushima had its flaws, it was a beautiful and expansive game. Ghost of Yotei is better in many ways, but it unfortunately repeats some of the same mistakes. The story isn’t quite as strong as the original, but it’s still a worthwhile exclusive for PlayStation 5 and shows off the impressive creativity of Sucker Punch Productions.

The studio is considering focusing on games like Sly Cooper, inFamous, or even starting a completely new project. If they do, they feel Ghost of Yotei would be a satisfying game to finish with – or at least pause development on for a while – and it was a strong candidate for an Action-Adventure Game of the Year award.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Death Stranding 2 is shaping up to be a significant improvement over the first game. Despite Hideo Kojima working on other projects, this sequel has always been his priority. The game is bringing back familiar faces and adding a star-studded cast, with no detail too small.

Like all games from Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding has an incredibly epic and impressive feel. While the game’s ambitious ideas sometimes feel overwhelming, it’s still a remarkable achievement by Kojima Productions. It’s a technical masterpiece, and even just seeing the spinning lights sequence is worth the price of the game!

Split Fiction

Hazelight Studios has become known for consistently creating excellent games. After successes like ‘A Way Out’ and the Game of the Year winner ‘It Takes Two’, each new game faces high expectations. Their latest title, ‘Split Fiction’, feels very similar to ‘It Takes Two’: it’s designed for two players, features two unique characters, and focuses on a series of fun mini-games and creative gameplay elements, all tied together by a touching story.

Split Fiction is just as good as It Takes Two, though some might feel it reuses ideas from that game, making it less surprising. Despite this, it’s still a strong contender for Game of the Year – TopMob believes it was unfairly ignored at The Game Awards 2025 – and is definitely worth playing.
